I got this from a site:

Along these lines, the OS X EULA specifically prohibits you from installing it on non-Apple hardware. Apple has used this provision to shut down Mac cloners like Psystar, but (so far) has shown no interest in going after individuals or the multitude of Hackintosh sites on the net.

So basically it's illegal but Apple doesn't care

EULA prohibits from installing OS X on non-Apple LABELED hardware.
So do what i did, put an apple sticker on your beige case, and you're safe

The OSX Eula is fairly straight forward: putting the OS on a non-Apple labeled computer breaks the contract.

    A. Single Use. This License allows you to install, use and run one (1) copy of the Apple Software on a single Apple-labeled computer at a time.

You agree not to install, use or run the Apple Software on any non-Apple-labeled computer, or to enable others to do so.

This License does not allow the Apple Software to exist on more than one computer at a time, and you may not make the Apple Software available over a network where it could be used by multiple computers at the same time.

So if you put it on a pc, you are in breach of contract. Are they going to come after you? Probably not. They could, and probably will, come after the people that are making it possible.

Hope this helps . But long story short: yes it is 'illegal'

I called mac today and asked them this question that every one been asking and they said it's legal as long as you don't sell the pc or software for a profit. And you don't have to have a apple logo on it. Just don't sell the pc and software for a profit you'll be fine. And next time I call them I will record it and post it on youtube so everyone can stop the stupid questions.

So good to know to be safe with that.
My short answer would have been "it's your hardware!"

Maybe the only thing they can do is claiming that you don't own the retail DVD (haven't checked that). In case any law enforcer will ask you (which should not happen in 99,99% of all cases), pretend to search the hardcopy and then say "oh, it must be lost" ^^
