Dell Mini 9 + Snow Leopard Fail
Hi,
I have a new dell mini 9 with a brand new unformatted 16Gb ssd
I followed this tutorial to make the USB stick and each step seemed to complete successfully exactly as it said
I used a genuine retail snow leopard dvd to fill the second partition of the usb stick, that also seemed to complete successfully without errors
When I try to install it, I can go into the bios and the ssd is detected.
The install goes through the first screen which says about SYSLINUX, then it goes to the Darwin x86 screen and shows the 2 partitions on the USB drive. I can select the second partition but when I attempt to boot from to the install, I get a message flash up saying:
System.config file '/com.apple.boot.S/Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/com.apple.Boot.plist' not found
Then it gor to another Darwin/x86 screen and shows the following messages:
Loading Darwin/x86
Loading kernel mach_kernel
Loading HFS+ file: [mach_kernel] from 422eb90
Loading HFS+ file: [mach_kernel] from 422eb90
The cursor spins for a few seconds then goes to a normal flashing cursor and doesn't do anything else
Is this because the guide I followed wasn't for snow leopard?
Or is it down to a mistake making the install USB ?
Can I fix this by copying the missing file onto the USB drive?
thanks

i am having the same problem and started from the same sources (giz how-to). the only difference between my issue and the one above is that i used retail Leopard instead of Snow Leopard. anyone have any suggestions?

a possible solution
hi i had a similar problem, broke my head for 2 days, then read something that said that this problem also occurs when there are 2 boot files, i.e. if u r trying to install snow leopard on the same drive (but diff. partition) then chameleon tries to load the boot from leopard , so remove the boot from leopard and mark snow leopard as active using fdisk

jayk - could you elaborate a bit? i'm somewhat noob on this whole thing. i'm trying to load leopard on one partition of my mini9. the other partition is for win7, but i haven't loaded anything on there yet. so where would this second boot file be that i would remove? thanks!

Ok listen this i have successfully installed Snow Leopard on the same Dell Mini, but u need to check the version of BIOS if its A04 then its ok from Snow but if its A05 or A06 then u must downgrade ur BIOS for that u must check this and if u need something else just make a search on google.

Br,
Tito Millo Your statement would be true if you were talking about the dell mini 10 However, this is not the case with the mini 9 I am running Snow Leopard on my mini 9 just fine with Ao5 bios. For information for installation of os x for the mini series of netbooks go to MyDellMini there will can find all the info you need for your version of the mini (9,10,10v)
