I installed iportable 10.6.7 or 10.6.2 on a usb hd 2 partions (mbr) 1 mac and 1 32fat. I used another mac to do these task.
iportable has a easy basic install with copycat and boot fix. after you finish the usb install and copy iportable.dmg to the fat32, reboot to the usb (at dos prompt select to boot to usb). it will boot on most PC's. I had a lot of problems on AMD with touch pad and internet. I installed on IBM .HP netbook. Dell desktop. Snow favors intel. u will have to install appropate ktext . I use a flash drive. unless your mac savoy , I would start with 10.6.2 I still have wifi problems on netbook.
    use boot fix in tools.
