I want to install it on a external hard drive to test it, is it safe???I don't want to lose my windows 7.Which version do I install???

if you want a stable and very good version you need retail version you will need to lose windows 7, and you are supposed to use retail version.

but if you want a slow, version and unstable, you can download any distro and make a partition on windows
