Default Asus Rampage III Extreme installation problems.

    Hi,

I just bought me the Rampage III motherboard and I'm trying to install OS X on it.
It doesn't go so well to be honest..

I have a USB-stick with the Snow Leopard etc. on it.
I configure BIOS so the disks is recognized as AHCI and not IDE. But if I do that it takes forever for it to boot up on the USB-stick, I see the grey apple and background and the spinning loading animation. It stands there for like 2 minutes or even more and then the language selection pops up.
I try to click next but it's like forzen so I can't click the button.

If I choose IDE in BIOS it boots up just fine and I can click me through to select the harddrive but ofc there's no harddrives to choose from, diskutility doesn't recognize them either.

Does anyone have any experience on OS X on a Rampage III that can tell me what's causing the problem here?

If you need more information just ask me!

Thanks a lot for the help!
    -Patric

I don't have the board so can't tell much, but have you try to disable legacy USB, disable legacy storage,
disable USB keyboard/mouse to see if it goes faster? What is the chipsets?

Bios : AHCI, USB 3 Disable.

You can solve the problem using "DSDT patch". Find more information about "slow sata fix".

    Have good luck.

In my case, I installed OS X : USB Stick + myHackinstaller + Snow Retail + DSDT.

I tried the myHack thing and it worked better than the other way I used, but it still freezes when it starts installing it.
I checked the logs and found this:

Mac OS X Installer[130:b503] Looking for system packages
Mac OS X Installer[130:b503] no system packages found
Mac OS X Installer[130:b503] No or Invalid system receipts found on /Volumes/OS X
Mac OS X Installer[130:b503] Attempting fallback using: /System/Library/PrivateFrameworks/SystemMigration.framework/Resources/FallbackSystemFiles.plist
Mac OS X Installer[130:b503] Finding system files...
Mac OS X Installer[130:b503] Writing system path cache.
Mac OS X Installer[130:b503] Error writing cache to /Volumes/OS X/Library/Caches/com.apple.FindSystemFiles.plist
    Mac OS X Installer[130:b503] Failed to enumerate /Volumes/OS X/Library/Caches, cannot prune ("com.apple.user*pictureCache*")
Thats pretty much it and it just shows:
Installing Mac OS X on the disk "OS X"...

    Time Remaining: About 19 minutes
and there is like one millimeter on the progressbar and never moves..

What can be the problem here?

Default The best way I can show to you.

Bios : AHCI on, USB 3 Disable, Suspended Mode (S3 Only)

"myHackInstaller" can't complete booting process because of "AppleTyMCEDriver.kext".
sorry, but except this problem... I think "myHackinstaller" is the best way.

    Here is another way.
during many times testing, always succeeded.

    1. connect ONLY ONE HARD disk to your sata #1 PORT.
    2. boot with "iBoot CD", and install OS X. (except Multibeast !!!)
    (Retail version MUST be 10.6.0)
tonymacx86 Blog: iBoot + MultiBeast: Install Mac OS X on any Intel-based PC

    3. After install, reboot with "iBoot CD", and select "OS X Partition installed".
    4. Install "myHackinstaller (current version 1.1)"
    5. DSDT Patch (slow sata fix :HPET, RTC, PIC, TMR)
    6. Add other kext.
    - n/w : Intel82566MM.kext
    - sound : DSDT+Legacy889HDA.kext(E/E), replace AppleHDA.kext(S/L/E).
    - video : DSDT (in my case : nVidia GTS250)
    7. MUST DELETE "AppleTyMCEDriver.kext" (S/L/E).
    8. Run Kext Utility.
    9. Reboot. (connect all hard disk)

    and read your private message.

I got Snow Leopard 10.6.3 installed in my Rampage III Extreme by using a thumbdrive with myHack Installer and another kernel. Network works, video (GTX 480) works, JMicron SATA works, ICH10R SATA does NOT work in RAID mode, sound does NOT work.

I have been toying around with the DSDT file, but I cannot find the sound section in it. Do you have a patched DSDT I can use (maybe as a guide if it is for a similar board)?

I am very close to get it fully working, but I have been stuck with those two details for days now. I would really appreciate it if you can give me a hand here.

    Thanks.

Thanks now I know it's actually possible to install it on this board!
I thought my board was broken so I sent it in for repair and just got a replacement board yesterday so I thought I would give it a go again.
The only problem is that the same issue is still occurring.. random freezing and shit, but it looks like it more stable under windows 7.

Anyways, did you modify the myHack install on your USB-stick?
I tried it last night and I just got shitloads of errors and stuff.
I only have a 10.6.0 Install DVD so that might be it cause they added some support for more i7 cpu's and stuff in 10.6.3 or something right?

Did you do any more BIOS changes more than setting drives to AHCI?
I really want to boot in to OS X so I can access my software raided disks :p

Does anyone know what the f*** is wrong here? Is it my BIOS settings that are wrong? I have tried many different settings and other stuff like only have one RAM DIMM installed etc. and nothing seems to work..

From what I can tell it looks like there is something wrong with the CPU!?

    Thanks for any help.

    EDIT:

    My setup is:
    Asus Rampage III Extreme
    Intel i7 930
    Nvidia 460 GTX
