ACPI : System State [S0 S3 S4 S5] (S3) error on Dell Studio 1749
I'm currently trying to install Snow Leopard on my Dell Studio 1749. I'm using Tonymac iBoot Supported with the 10.4.0 Darwin Kernel and a 10.6 Retail DVD. Currently, I'm getting this as the last message before the kernel panic: ACPI : System State [S0 S3 S4 S5] (S3). I can't find any ACPI settings in my BIOS and I wanted to know if anyone had any ideas on how to get past this. I've looked at other forums and I can't find any solutions. Please help. My specs are in my sig. Thanks.
Specs:
Dell Studio 1749
Intel i3-330M
Intel HM55 Chipset
Intel HD Graphics
6 gigs RAM
Intel Centrino Advanced-N 6200
I will specify any other specs if needed

It's not good that you still struggle with for that long.
Have you got any response from the other forum, Tonymac? About OSX hanging at that screen?
And have you got any lead to go forward?

Yeah, I'm still struggling with it. Getting frustrated and might have to take a break from it again. The only possible reason I've heard is that the Intel Graphics is causing the problem. I've seen that other people have been able to install with the same integrated graphics. I would think that the graphics would not necessarily be the reason why I can't install.

I would not think that Intel graphic could be the problem, and you're right there are many others with the same graphic.
There are other methods you can try if you don't want to stay with iboot.

I'm going to try the iATKOS S3 to at least see if it will install. I'd so much rather have a retail install though. I've tried other things like iBoot, but I haven't found anything else that works. Plus, iBoot is constantly revised and has a decent amount of support. Would there be anything that you would recommend for a retail install? Either way, I will see what I can do.

You start making me laugh though. Let me ask you a question. What would be the diffences between distro, retail, iBoot, EmpireEFI etc. in term of OSX performance IF it is updated to the latest version from Apple AFTER initial installation?

I guess there wouldn't be much of a difference, if any. I just heard that there can be problems when updating from a distro.

ratvn- I don't know if you're still watching this thread but...I just tried to install iATKOS S3 version 2. Tried every kernel that was on it. Still the same problem, it gets stuck at ACPI: System State blah blah blah or it just restarts. I still can't reach the install screen. So, I'm still at a loss. Any more thoughts?

Still can't reach installer screen.
Your computer hates Steve Jobs that much?
Have you try -x -v cpus=8 busratio=16
I get the busratio for you should be 16 but other got it better at 17.
This is strange. Have you disabled all CPU features, disable all network, audio, legacy USB, USB keyboard/mouse?
