10.6.2 installation with lots of problems
I'm a newbie OSX86 user and a little experienced Linux user. I've found Hazard's Mac OS 10.6.2 DVD from somewhere and successfully installed on my PC. With the Mac OS, I've also installed NVinject and some extra applications I can't remember right now.
Without safe mode, I can't boot my Mac OS. And when I change resolution, nothing but a light blue screen appears. I actually found some tips about resolution but they were for 10.5.x version. My actual resolution on other operating systems is "1280x1024x32" but OS X forces me to use "1024x768x32".
Shutdown is also weird. When I shutdown or reboot, it shutdowns strangely fast and my BIOS loads default settings and says that: "CMOS cheksum error, default settings loaded". Neither on another OS X nor on Linux I've encountered with this error.
There were USB mount fixes for OSX on other DVD's but my 10.6.2 DVD, I couldn't find any so I can't mount USB drives.
My hardware detail is below.
CPU: DualCore Intel Core 2 Duo E8400, 2666 MHz (8 x 333)
Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-G31M-S2L (2 PCI, 1 PCI-E x1, 1 PCI-E x16, 2 DDR2 DIMM, Audio, Video, Gigabit LAN)
BIOS: Award Modular (11/01/07)
Graphics: NVIDIA GeForce 8500 GT (512 MB)
Monitor: LG L1754 [17" LCD] (1802492002)
Audio: Realtek ALC662 @ Intel 82801GB ICH7
HDD: ST3250310AS ATA Device (250 GB, 7200 RPM, SATA-II)
I know maybe I can find solutions for my questions but I don't know exactly where to look.
PS: I've more detailed info about my hardware, tell me if you need extra info.
Thanks a lot in advance,
I am also a newbie, can not help you out as much, just thought that I may be able to share a few quick things as I don't have the reference links for you (do a search or google).
About CMOS reset, it is an overlapping 2 bit memory from RTC and the solution is to recompile DSDT with correction or apply a CMOS fix. I did the DSDT recompilation and that fixed it.
Screen resolution, mine is 8400GS 512Mb and the installation tip was NOT to load any NV graphic driver. With RC4 and DSDT OSX will pick up the kext for video and ID display correctly to set proper resolution. Mine worked beautifully with QE/CL enable. You can also specify resolution in com.apple.boost.plist with Graphics Mode, 1280x1028x32 if the first does not apply to your card.
And last, this is very interesting (as I am in the process of acquiring my new system and was about to get the G31M-S2L) because there are some genius who made a custom mac BIOS for the G31, G43 series board with all the required modification loaded in the ROM, which translates to near identical to the real mac. Many think this is one step above retail DVD installation, left alone the distros that you and I need to use. If you like to, then search to obtain it. I think it also come with how to instructions.
Hope these will be of some assistance to you.
I'll search the custom BIOS but I don't know exactly how to recover BIOS without a floppy drive if I do something wrong.
I'll try your other suggestions if I can't find anything useful.
