upgrading 10.5.4 to 10.5.6 on on GT5426E (AMD)
After sorting out some boot issues outlined here (thanks icchansan and TJ2K7), I have a working LawlessPC 10.5.4 installation on my AMD machine.
I was able to get my Yukon ethernet working with an AppleYukon.kext, and my ALC888 sound working with an ALC888.pkg package. Some things that aren't working:
- Still working on getting my nVidia GeForce GT7600 256mb card to display better than 1024x768 (NVinject isn't working).
- On boot, the screen says there were errors and that it will pause 5 seconds, but then it continues to boot. It doesn't say what the errors are.
- It takes about 7 minutes for my PC to boot into OS X: 2 minutes of either the grey/white Apple screen or scrolling messages (depending on whether I use '-v' to boot), then 5 minutes of a black screen (regardless of the '-v'), then a blue screen for about 30 seconds, and then finally OS X.
- The machine also seems to hang on shutdown and restart.
I would like to upgrade from LawlessPC 10.5.4 to some 10.5.6 distribution in hopes of fixing these problems. At one point, I had iDeneb 10.5.5 installed with most of the same problems, and I tried a few things (detailed here) in hopes of fixing them, but I ended up with a hosed system, and I'd rather not do that again.
What is a good way to upgrade to 10.5.6 for my particular system (AMD, nForce, see sig)?

Wow: over 100 reads on this topic, and not a single reply?
I guess lots of people are having the same problem with the same system?
Well, I was able to "upgrade" by using a new install disc from XxX for 10.5.6. Video, audio, and ethernet all work fine, with a Voodoo 9.5 kernel. I still have the other problems described above and could use some help fixing:
- On boot, the screen says there were errors and that it will pause 5 seconds, but then it continues to boot. It doesn't say what the errors are.
- It takes about 7 minutes for my PC to boot into OS X: 2 minutes of either the grey/white Apple screen or scrolling messages (depending on whether I use '-v' to boot), then 5 minutes of a black screen (regardless of the '-v'), then a blue screen for about 30 seconds, and then finally OS X.
- The machine also seems to hang on shutdown and restart.
Any hints on fixing these would be quite appreciated.
Other than those, I would recommend trying XxX for 10.5.6 for this and similar systems.

With the bare minimum, same as previous attempts really. I also installed a kext that was supposed to be a 'fix' for shutdown/restart hangs, but that doesn't seem to have worked. I've had this 7-minute start-up problem with every installation I've tried so far. There must be a fix that actually works?

So any thoughts on fixing the boot problems? Some thought the problems were due to my motherboard/chipset (nForce), but I don't know how to address that, and the installation completed fine ...
Also would like to fix the CPU fan, which runs at almost full speed constantly.

Yes, using the Voodoo kernel. My other installs were not using it, but this one is. And all installs seem to have suffered from the same 7-minute delay during boot, same problem with shutdowns and restarts, etc.

So, after all the attempts I've made, should I just give up on trying to fix these problems? I'm not sure what else to try.
