hey thanks for showing interest!
most recently i used ToH rc2 and that froze at "using xxxxx buffer headers and xxxx cluster IO headers" (i cant remember the exact numbers, i can get them by attempting install again if its neccessary?)
in the past i have used iatkos, kalyway & leo4all (the latest versions), none got to the installation screen. they hung at various places. (again, i could burn them to dvd & attempt to install them aain to see where they hang if youd like?)
more specs on my laptop are as follows:
intel pentium dual core t2330 1.6ghz
2gb ddr2 ram
intel x3100 graphics controller
mobile intel 965 express chipset
320gb sata HDD
bios = american megatrends v1.9 (04/03/2008)
wifi = realtek rtl8187b
i think the bios may be playing a key role in not letting me install.
many many many thanks for your help

disable Dual Processing in Bios, in Advanced Option I guess. I have Toshiba satellite L40, like you

thanks that worked a bit, i managed to install iatkos. but now it just hangs on bootup at the grey apple loading screen. in -v it says " timed out waiting for IOkit quiesce" any ideas?
also can i ask if you have it working on your l40, and if so which distro did you use?
huge thanks!

try booting up with -v -x to see if you can go farther.

You're using ToH rc2 distro which I have not tried.
I say you should try using iAtkos or IPC or Ideneb.
It's probably some sort of misconfiguration during your custom setup.
It's best that you list out options that you pick during install. That way it would be easier to help.

This is good.
This is an indication of a wrong choice you picked during your 'custom" installation.
This is pretty much trial/error at this point for you.
Try a reinstall and make note of what you picked.
If everything is chosen correctly, it should boot up very fast.
You are very close.
