Default Toshiba l40 sound & cores

    hi,
i have a TOSHIBA SATELLITE PRO L40-17G laptop.

i've managed to install iAtkos 5i with only two problems.

    1) The Realtek ALC660 inbuilt sound works through the speakers, but NOT THROUGH THE HEADPHONE JACK.

    2) I have to disable multi-core processing to make it work.

    specs:

Pentium dual core T2330 processor. (1.6ghz)
    2gb DDR2 ram
    RTL8187B realtek wifi (802.11g)
    Intel x3100 video card
    Realtek ALC660 audio chipset

Any help regarding these two problems would be HUGELY appreciated!!!
    many thanks

    Default Update

ok, i tried installing "iDeneb 1.4" and it contained a ALC660 driver, which worked!
but many other things didnt so i reverted back to "iAtkos 5i"

what i would like to know is, is there any way to install the ALC660 driver on the "iDeneb 1.4" in my iAtkos leopard setup now? can i obtain the driver from somewhere, or copy it from the dvd?

    many thanks

Yes you can get the kext from the DVD, if they are hide, you can use invisibles app to check the folder on the DVD, now about your cores, you need a MOD BIOS or need to install Retail with DSDT patch :/

hi, well since my post ive tried the PACIFIST APP. that allowed me to obtain the ALC660 folder i needed for my sound, the folder contained AppleHDA.kext and HDAEnabler.kext

i tried installing them both with KEXTHELPER, repairing permissions with DISKUTILITY and rebooted, still no headphone sound though! i feel im missing out on a step during the install process, are there any files im supposed to delete or something else im supposed to do? please help

as for the BIOS mod, ive never really looked into that because it seemed a bit risky, since i know nothing about bios editting. but i want dual-core! could you give me any advice about it (bearing in mind im a total newbie to bios modding)

also ive never heard about the DSDT patch option, and how would i install retail (is this to do with the boot-132 method i heard about recently?)

sorry to bother you with my questions

ive only been hacking for a few weeks now, so any help would be hugely appreciated

Hey Jordan, I'm sorry but I can't help you.

I would like to have your help, I'm starting right now installing the iAtkos on my L40, can you tell me what changes have you done exactly in order for this to work? (the dual-core trick...)

    Thanks a lot
Would be marvelous to be able to hackintosh this L40

    Hi Hobkien,
I haven't managed to get dual-core working (i had to disable multi-core processing in the BIOS for it even to load up!) but apparently "icchansan" says this is possible somehow, im gonna ask for his help and research into it.

this is how i got to my partially working state:

    disable multi-core processing in BIOS
disable Legacy USB support in BIOS (had to for realtek wifi to work)

    installed with these customize options:
X86 ACPI (allows leopard to recognize my laptop touchpad and keyboard)
    x3100 (for the video card)
EFI string for Intel (not sure what this does, installed anyway )
intel AHCI SATA (to recognize harddrive properly)
laptop battery (not sure if necessary, installed anyway)

im not sure if you have the same wifi card as me, mines the RTL8187B, for this i had to install (once leopard was up and running) the "realtek wlan utility" (google it) then reboot. once rebooted i entered these commands in a terminal: (to make the realtek wlan utility recognize my card)

    cd /
    cd /System/Library/Extensions/RTL8187Bt.kext/Contents
    sudo nano Info.plist

now you must scroll down to find "<integer/>33161</integer>" and change "33161" to "33175"

    press control and x
press y for yes and press enter

    exit the terminal and reboot

(obviously, none of the realtek wlan utility steps are necessary if you dont have the RTL8187B card)

once i did that i had to fix the little things, for example i have a fix for the keyboard keys " and @ being changed. and keyboard shortcuts for affecting brightness and volume.
ask me if you need these once youve installed leopard (fingers crossed )

MAC OX X is now running perfectly on my L40 ! :p

So, I can't connect the Wi-Fi so I'm doing what you said to do.

How about the @? I can't find a way to right it... Do you have a solution for that too? Oh, thanks a lot for your help!

    hi,
I'm glad to hear its going well!
to get the " and @ working right go to this like:

    filehosting.org - free unlimited filehosting

and download the file (i think it'll work, its my first time uploading a file to this particular website, tell me if you cant download it)

    once downloaded do the following:

    1) copy UK.keylayout to /Library/Keyboard Layouts
    2) logout and back in
    3) go system preferences/international/input menu
    4) scroll down to “UK” and check
    5) check “show input menu in menu bar” and choose “UK” for menu bar
    6) uncheck “show input menu in menu bar”

    that should do it

(you may have to do steps 4,5 and 6 again sometimes, for me it seems there are certain apps that revert you to the original keyboard layout, not very often though)

I'm trying it right now, thanks!

Just one important question: where the hell can I check which realtek version do I have?

Even on the web I couldn't find it, mine is L40-15G.

    Thanks a lot dude!
