Just one important question: where the hell can I check which realtek version do I have?
Even on the web I couldn't find it, mine is L40-15G.
Thanks a lot dude!
Turn you laptop upside down!
on the back of mine theres a wifi sticker which says "contains radio device rtl8187b" in small text.
i think you model has the rtl8187b also, so you should follow the steps i said to get it working (its essential "usb legacy support" is disabled in the bios)
once you've done what i said and rebooted a popup should appear once the realtek wlan utility is launched asking you to "enable the wifi device in system preferences" (or something similar to this) alought there wasnt actually anything to enable in the network settings in system preferences, this popup stopped comming after a few reboots. once youve done that and have the utility app running, right click on it in the dock and check "open at login"
i also can tell you how to get the brightness and volume keyboard shortcuts working if you find them necessary?
hey does sound come out of your headphones when you plug them into the 3.5mm headphone jack?
other than that i guess your now in the same position im in, everything working except dual-core.

Well, I have a problem, my alphabet has ç and í í so I can't replace my hole keyboard layout for an UK one. Anyway, I will take care of that later, the @ is not as important as the wireless card right now.
I already checked and mine is the same as yours. Can you just tell me how did you do it? I already download something but I'm not quite sure is the correct file.
I've tryed as you said but in the terminal I can't get through, it says there's no such file or directory. Did you burn a CD with it and installed from there? Cause I just downloaded it from safari, installed and reboot.
Thanks a lot for your help, my life is getting better because of you :p
PS: I'm Portuguese, that's why i need a different keyboard layout

Sorry i assumed you were British!
i unfortunately cant help you with the keyboard then.
as for the wifi this is EXACTLY what i did:
go here
Realtek
scroll to the bottom and download the RTL8187B driver for mac.
Once downloaded click "install.mpkg"
Once installed you must reboot
Open a terminal and enter these one at a time (copy and past them because they are all case-sensitive) :
cd /
cd /System/Library/Extensions/RTL8187Bt.kext/Contents
sudo nano Info.plist
(scroll down to find <integer/>33161</integer> and change 33161 to 33175)
press control and x
press y for yes and press enter
exit the terminal
reboot
once rebooted you can launch the "realtek wlan configuration utility" app. it will be in your Applications folder
you should recieve a popup asking you to enable your wifi card in System preferences/Network. ignore this as there is no option to enable it there.
configure you network with the Realtek app (ie, tell it where to connect and the password required)
This wifi card will not be detected as an "airport card" so you wont have the wifi meter in your menu-bar. it will be detected as a second Ethernet cable by apple, but this doesnt appear to affect wifi connection through the Realtek app.
Tell me if all goes well

Well, small problem here, the Realtek app doesn't allow me to do anything, it keeps saying "enable the wlan card..." and I can't change a damn thing!
Any suggestions?
Thanks dude, if you ever come to Portugal just let me know and I'll be glad to pay you a beer (at least!) :p

Haha thanks!
well that popup "enable the wlan card.." is the one i was referring to (i forgot the exact words)
I'm trying to think back to how i did it. Go to System preferences, Network. see if you have anything in the box on the left with a GREEN light next to it (they're usually RED) mines has an 1 that says "AIRPORT connected"
the reason im having trouble telling you what to do is because for me all i had to do was launch the Realtek app and go to "AVAILABLE NETWORKS" and select my one then enter my password,
There never was anything i could click and "enable" in the network system preferences. theres a padlock in the bottom left on the network preferences window try unlocking that, and reboot.
can you still use the Realtek app after the popup?
also, this might sound silly, but my laptop has a wifi switch on the front, does yours, and if so, is it switched to on?
This is what mine looks like:

play around with it and tell me if you get any results.

The app finds my wireless connection, but I can't connect. I select the network, the type of security (WEP in this case), insert the password and nothing.
It says to insert key strings before hit connect but I don't know what that is or where to insert them.
Thanks a lot dude.
Even tough I can't connect, the card is already working so we're making some progress here
Thanks!
PS: on my Settings - Network window is shows a second ethernet green light, saying "Self-Assigned IP". Green light in there, Airport still off.

MY wifi is using WPA2 security so i dont have to deal with a "ASCII" key which is where i guess entered your password right?
if so try copying what you put in the ASCII box into the Network key boxes i put my password in.
There is also the possibility that the Realtek app (being a hard to use piece of crap) isnt compatible with WEP encryption.
If this is the case, you can always convert your router to use WPA2 if its compatible (it must have been bought within the last 2 years or so because WPA2 uses hardware not in the old WEP routers) its quite an easy change if it is compatible. youll have to check your manual of google info on your specific router (generally WPA2 is considered better, dont ask me why!)
like i said, just try copying your password into those last 2 boxes, but i dont use WEP so i cant give you first hand experience.
As for the "Second ethernet" in network settings, that is exactly what mine was detected as when i first installed the Realtek app, infact im not sure why mines being recognized as an airport card now!
Either way thats not a problem.
get back to me once youve played around with it a little more,
(i also have a way to make sound come out of the headphone jack if thats not working for you?)

Well, now what's next?
Did you find any method to turn on the second processor?
The fix to the keys (brightness and, more important, volume) would be nice to get but, even more important than that, the speakers connection. Do you have a solution for that?
I owe you now 2 beers!
Thanks mate !!!
Unfortunately i havent found a way to enable multi-core processing, i think to do this would require a completely different method of installation, like editing the BIOS to let this happen, ive read about other people doing it but it seems a little risky to me.
as for the shortcut keys,
For a way to affect Volume go here:
Griffin Technology: Proxi
and download there app, its a confusing app but once you figure it out it will let you assign a keyboard shortcut to affect volume, here what mine looks like:
Proxi on Flickr - Photo Sharing!
For a way to affect brightness (for some reason the "proxi" app doesnt let you affect brightness, i dont know why) go here:
Shades | Software | Charcoal Design
and download it, once installed it adds a new icon in the system preferences, go there and configure it.
this is what mine looks like:

Shades 2 on Flickr - Photo Sharing!
Ive got sound working out of the headphone jack (leopard now also detects my line-in), but i need to know do you have sound coming out of your speakers at all? does it just come out of the speakers, or is there completely no sound? Also you should google your laptop to see if it has the "ALC660" sound chipset. its important that you find this out (im pretty sure it does because your laptop is practically the same as mine). If you do have the ALC660 sound on-board then i have a fix i can walk you through which will get sound FULLY working.
Get back to me once youve got those apps working and you know if you have the ALC660

Done !
What about the sound board? Checked, it's just like yours !
Thanks mate !
