    Default Toshiba A200 - Jas10.4.8 works, but Jas10.5.4 will not!

    I have successfully Dual booted WinXP and Jas10.48 on my Toshiba A200 notebook utilizing Acronis.

    However, I am trying to install Jas 10.5.4, and it just won't boot into MAC OS X.

    Using the -V parameter, I can see that the last line of code processed reads:
    AppleRTL8169Ethernet: Ethernet address 00:1e:ec:XX:XX:XX (hiding my mac address)

    Booting stops at this location.

    I have tried iDeneb, Jas, and a few other 10.5.5 and 10.5.6 distributions, but they all hang at the same spot. I was hoping Jas would work because the earlier 10.4.8 did.... but no luck.

    Here are a few specs on my notebook:
    Sound - Realtek ALC861-VD {tried Azalia Audio}
    Display - ATI Mobility Radeon HD 2600 PCI {tried Radeon HD2600 XT PCIE}
    Chipset - Intel ICH8M {tried ICH 7/8/9}
    Ethernet - Realtek RTL8139/810x {left blank, no matches found on Jas}

    There are many other setting options on the Jas distribution, but I am not sure which ones to select, ie... SMBIOS, Plugins, Device ID, etc..

    Does anyone have any suggestions? Ultimately I want to run 10.5.5 so I can experiment programming Apps for the iphone and touch.

    Are there any special settings or proceedures for EFI or Chameleon?

    Anything special to enter at the initial boot prompt?

    Any help is appreciated.

    Note: My A200 has different hardware than the one on the HCL.

    Default Install completed, but would not complete boot sequence

    Booting got further than the ethernet error from before, but only a few lines. The screen produces a very fast white flash and the entire boot process freezes.

    There seems to be an opportunity during the boot sequence to enter some manual commands, as I see a root prompt. Any suggestions??

    Default Screen shots of booting failure

    Tried to send you screen shots, but the upload attachment screen kept timing-out. Basically the images are as follows:

    1. Acronis photo showing both Windows and OSX as bootable choices.

    2. Text boot screen showing Leopard partition and Boot parameters. Command line appears as: Boot: cpus=1 -v

    3. Diagnostic screen showing where the booting sequence stopped.

    Question: Is 10.5.2 so significantly different than 10.4.8 in regards to the booting process?

    Also, does my motherboard American Megatrends Bios have anything to do with why 10.5 will not boot? Remember, Jas10.4.8 works with this bios.

    Thanks

    Default Problem is with the Graphics Kext

    Some good new and some bad news:

    I found another distribution, XxX Kalyway 10.5.6 that I have installed and have come very close to fully working.

    I chose the generic graphic kext during install. It booted and played an introductory video. Only problem... screen was completely garbled. But it actually fully booted. First time. Yahoo!

    Tried installing again with a different graphic kext choice and it absolutely refused to boot... just like the previous distribution.

    So I tried another install. This time I chose a kext that closely resembled my graphics card. It installed, fully booted, the screen flashed white, then went black, then the introductory video played. However, can't see anything.

    But at least the sound works!

    My Toshiba graphis card is: ATI Mobility Radeon 2600 HD

    The choices are all variations of Radeon 2600HD AGP, XT, or PCIE. Nothing with mobility.

    Have you come across a kext that works with just the ATI Mobility Radeon 2600 HD ??

    Thanks in advance

    Default Mobility version not yet supported

    The mobility version of the Radeon 2600 HD has a device code of 0x9581

    Have not been able to find an appropriate kext yet. There are fixes for the XT version and the Pro version. But not the plain old mobility version.

    I followed your advice from another thread and got a successfull Kalyway 10.5.6 boot. But it is very weird.

    "Graphics mode"="640x480x32@60" results in the checkerboard harringbone pattern.

    Entering "SAFE MODE" -X allows the screen to boot properly and I can see everything. However, for whatever reason, the sound doesn't work anymore. Possibly I didn't select the AppleAzaliaAudio option during the reinstall of Kalyway.

    Now I just have to find a way to get the sound back on. Any info on installing the kext after the initial install of 10.5.6?? I do see it in the extensions directory, but don't know how to activate it.
