Default Sony vgn n31 with intel gma 945/950 problems

    Hello

I'm trying to get mac os x installed on my sony vgn-n31, i've tried both iAtkos and iDeneb, both install fine but on boot up, it gets to the screen where the gui is started (blue screen appears for a second), the screen goes blank for a second, then the screen appears as a series of gray and black lines which then fade into white on half the screen. I'm guessing this is a problem with the video drivers. I'm currently using iDeneb and i installed the intel GMA950 card drivers, did the same with iAtkos, same results.
I understand that the -x flag should disable full graphics mode, but i get the same problem (do i just need to use the -x flag, or do i need to type the device and kernal name to? e.g. '/dev/sda1 whateverthekernelis -x')
sorry if i've noobishly missed something obvious, any help is greatly appreciated as i want to try out os x before taking the plunge and buying a macbook

Thanks for the reply, sorry i've been slow replying

-x did nothing at all, same problem with the white lines, OS X is booting behind the graphics problem, cause i can go through the first time setup menu with the screen voice narrator, but i can't see a thing

i played around a bit more, I've moved all the folders relating to AppleIntelGMA* out of the /System/Library/Extensions directory, this changed nothing, then i moved only the folders that relate to the 950 back into the folder, again, this had no effect on it's behavior, i still get a full screen of gray and black horisontal lines. I don't know if i failed a writing the changes to the disc, or if i didn't properly empty the kext cache, but i'm fairly sure i did. Bit stumped as to how removing the files could have changed nothing...

    Still stuck!
Tried numerous reinstalls, narrowed the patches down to the bare minimum needed to boot without error apart from the the display going weird, tried -x, gets the same results, now totally stumped! any ideas what i can try next would be great!

    thanks in advance

    Default Working!

I couldn't find any users with the same problem who had fixed their installs, but i kept hacking around at it, the problem did seem to be related to the kext cache not being updated properly, alongside a broken kext.

For others with the same problem, what I did was re install iDeneb 1.3 with the intel gma950 driver and adding in the OSx86 tools to the install. Then I got hold of another AppleIntelGMA950.kext/ (actually one for an eee pc...), formatted my flash drive to HFS, and put the kext on it.

Boot the laptop with -s to get into single user mode, mount laptop's drive in write mode, create a folder to mount the drive into (mkdir pendrive) then mount the drive

mount -t hfs /dev/disk1s1 /pendrive/ (where disk1s1 is the name of ur flash drive in /dev/)

Move the existing kext somewhere else, or delete it (rm -R /System/Library/Extensions/AppleIntelGMA950.kext) then copy the new kext to that folder (cp -R /pendrive/AppleIntelGMA950.kext/ /System/Library/Extensions/AppleIntelGMA950.kext)
Modify the permissions on the new kext:

    chmod -R 755 /System/Library/Extensions/AppleIntelGMA950.kext
    chown -R root:wheel /System/Library/Extensions/AppleIntelGMA950.kext
    rm -R /System/Library/Extensions.mkext"

now the crucial step that made it all work

    kextload -v /System/Library/Extensions/AppleIntelGMA950.kext

this should tell you that it was successfully loaded, type exit to boot the system, and it should boot!
Note, that until you do the next step, you will need to boot with -s and run the last command EVERY TIME YOU BOOT
On booting up, the resolution and graphics performance will probably be crappy, i used the OSx86 tool packaged with iDeneb to install the best drivers for my machine, empty my kext cache and repair partitions, and after a reboot, everything works brilliantly! (no more typing that command in every boot either!)

Good luck to anyone else who tries this, the machine runs OS X really nicely!
