Default Reboot loop in Darwin With KalyWay 10.5.1 & HCL board ?

    Hello,

Before I begin, here are the specs I'm working with.

    PcChips P23G motherboard (on HCL)
    Intel Celeron 3.46Ghz
    1 gig DDR2 3200
60 gig IDE HD, I forget the brand. formatted clean.
    IDE DVD player.

I've heard people have installed KalyWay with this exact MB and CPU, so I'm hoping it's possible.

After burning several copies of KalyWAy10.5.1 at low speeds, I initially couldn't get past a slew of EBIOS errors. I tried several IDE configurations between jumper settings and cable positions between the HD and DVD drive. The only way that worked was my current setup, DVD drive is connected VIA an IDE to USB adapter, and the HD is connected to the MASTER IDE.

I can now get to the Darwin boot screen, and even get through about 20 minutes worth of kext files loading (maybe all of them? I'm not sure). Problem is after that 20 minute period my computer reboots, and I'm back tot he Darwin boot screen.

I've hit F8, entered in "cpus=1 -v -f", "-v -f", "TOHKERNEL" "VANILLA" and no change. After 20 minutes of kext files I still reboot. Any thoughts? I've seen many, many forum posts on this exact issue, haven't come across anyone with a resolution or cause though.

I haven't owned a mac since the classic, looking to give the OS a look over before I drop big money.

    Thanks for any advice.

    Default Update

I've tried the following distributions, with no success:

KalyWay 10.5.1 - I can only get this to work if I use a USB to IDE adapter for the DVD drive, otherwise I just boot to a slew of EBIOS errors. Disc(s) were burned as slow as my drive allowed, 4x. When using the adatper I can get it to load all the kext files for 20 minutes, and then it either reboots just before the GUI should display, or Kernel Panics depending on the modifiers (-legacy -x -v -f cpus=1 etc..). Mach_Kernel or Vanilla, doesn't matter.

iDeneb - Kernel Panic a few minutes in, no matter what. Mach_Kernel. Same EBIOS errors without an adapter.

Leo4Allv3 final - Same EBIOS errors without an adapter. Reboots before GUI just like KalyWay, any kernel.

iATkos - I CAN get this one to load without an adapter. By using the cpus=1 flag, It immediatly boots to the a GUI screen that says "you must reboot your computer". without that flag it throws a kernel_panic, not specific but does say something about "64", so I assume it's trying to use a second core that isn't there.

I've also seen the "We're going backwards! -> restarting timing calibation failed with 2 attempts" message a few times, can't recall with which distro it was.

    Any suggestions?

    Default Solutions...

All of the EBIOS errors were caused by bad burns. For some reason the DVD Drive on this system would not pickup on a disc burned by nero. I re burned the iso with powerISO, and it took great. Worked for all distros I had tried.

Also, putting the DVD drive and HD on separate IDE channels helped. Speed things up a bit for some reason, and fixed a problem I was having later with the installer complaining of hard disk errors.

    Default It's working

I've got the same mobo and same configuration (IDE) and it's working with IPC 5.6 (and Kalyway 10.5.2 also)
There is some change to do in bios and select correct driver at installation.
Let me know if you want more détails, I made a description of my install.
    My CPU :Core2duo E6600@2.4Ghz (work also with a Pentium4)
    Videocard :Geforce 6200
