Maybe try another mouse? I've got an HP laptop that once the install begins, it doesn't recognize the trackpad any more. But plugging a USB mouse in gets things to going. In the hardware profiler, it shows as a microsoft mouse, which it is, how it knows that is beyond me.

Maybe you should try another brand before you write this off...

What about trying another USB port?

Does your computer support PS2 devices, have you tried that if so?

That's kinda weird but my HP laptop does the same thing. Try to boot up to install and one time it'll let me use the trackpad and then next it won't. I have to restart and try again and then usually it works just fine. Sometimes I have to plug in a USB mouse and other times doing so seems to lock up the install and it won't boot no matter what flags I try.

    Weird.
