How do you determine which kext's to use??

Or more appropriately, how do you determine what your hardware codes are to determine which kexts I need to use to install.

I'm attempting to install on an Inspiron 530. I'm currently using iPC (although I've downloaded IAKTOS).

I figure most of the installs are similar - but needing to know which kexts to install - and I do that based on knowing what hardware I have - but how do I determine that.

Its a clean hard drive (i've already formatted it in the install process - then I got stuck). Can I throw a linux live cd in and determine from that? And what do I look for to compare!

You have know your own hardware, mobo, chipsets, cards, everything in your system, read about them to know if there support for it, them try to install

I understand that I have to know my hardware. In a way, that is my question. Having a machine that has been formatted (so no OS is on it), and not having built it (its a dell inspiron 530), how can I go about learning what hardware I have and match that up with a kext?
