Thumbs down OSX won't start up

I installed OS X on my custom PC using iAtkos, and the install went through without a problem. When I restart it, though, it hits the Apple screen with the spinning lines below it, but it gets stuck on that screen. After awhile a little circle with a line through it appears, though the spinning wheel thing is still there.

When I start up with diagnostic messages, it eventually hits "Still waiting for root device" and stops. Here's my specs:

    Gigabyte GA-EP45-UD3R/UD3 Motherboard
    Intel Core 2 Duo E7300 Wolfdale 2.66GHz 3MB L2 Cache LGA 775
    SAMSUNG SpinPoint T Series HD501LJ 500GB 7200 RPM 16MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb/s Hard Drive
    Crucial 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800
    EVGA 01G-P3-N959-TR GeForce 9500 GT 1GB 128-bit GDDR2 PCI Express 2.0 x16
    LG Black 22X (CAV) DVD+R 8X DVD+RW 16X DVD+R DL 22X

    Thanks for the help.

EDIT: After looking at some of the FAQs and guides, I'm still stumped. The "Still waiting for root" was supposed to be caused by either not having a supported chipset or not getting the right drivers. Well, I have an Intel chipset, which is supported, and I have downloaded all the available SATA drivers. I've also switched from SATA mode to ACHI. Still the same problem. Well, that's not entirely true - once it switched from the (\) to a screen that says "You need to shut down the computer", but I forget what I did to make that happen. I'm going crazy, please help!
