This is a ToH method for install your update:
UPDATE: Doesn't work with Software Update, need to have .dmg / .pkg file.
Is recommended make backup of your /System/Library/Extension folder in case of nedded restore some modified .kext
Common problem: "I lost QE on 10.5.5 update. What do i need to do again? Been using this stable 10.5 box for ages now forgot the kexts I need to look at"
Well, I tell to make backup of Extensions folder, if you don't have it, search on usual places for re-download needed kexts.
This method works for OS X Desktop and OS X Server, remember, OS X Server needs a valid serial number to work. Don't ask-me for serial numbers here or in private messages.
This method has tested on 10.5.3 to 10.5.4 and to 10.5.5 and worked without problems.
For 10.5.5 to 10.5.6 This method require some modifications to use on 10.5.6. Don't try it on 10.5.6 until I have updated all the necessary changes!
-> Download 10.5.5 Desktop Delta Update
-> Download 10.5.5 Desktop Combo Update
-> Download 10.5.5 Server Delta Update
-> Download 10.5.5 Server Combo Update
Open Terminal/Finder/etc, go to System/Library/Extensions;
Start installing Combo Update;
Monitore /System/Library/Extensions folder, once AppleIntelCPUPowermanagement.kext appears there - remove it immediatly.
You can use this little script for it, run as root, before starting upgrade:
Once update finished, press ctrl-c in Terminal window, to stop script, don’t press restart!Code:while sleep 1 ; do rm -rf /System/Library/Extensions/AppleIntelCPUPowerManagement.kext ; done
After it, open this file in Textedit - /System/InstallAtStartup/scripts/1
Find there string /System/Library/Extensions/Dont Steal Mac OS X.kext
And replace with this string /System/Library/Extensions/dsmos.kext or r3d3.kext / AppleDecrypt.kext if you use this.
Then save it.
Now you can recover your AppleSMBIOS/AppleHDA/etc (didn’t you forget to make backups before running update ?)
And finaly press restart.
On first start it will do something, without booting to gui (graphical), then it will reboot, it can take about 3-4 mins, then it shuld boot normaly, if you didn't forget something.
Of course it’s all for Intel Core 2 based CPUS and Intel chipset (945 and superior) and Chameleon/pc_efi/ToH CDBoot.
Other users can use 10.5.4 kernel/System.kext with 10.5.4 system (like AMD users or PentiumD users)
For news about new kernels for NonHPET/NX Systems and AMD Systems check this first post, or go irc://irc.osx86.hu room #leopard for chat and more infos about this update.
Goodluck @ all!
