Newby with an Asus P5W DH Deluxe
Somebody told me that it was easy to build a Mac clone out of PC parts and I was intrigued. I have read all sorts of sites and posts and then I purchased the following parts:
Asus P5W DH Deluxe
Intel Core2 Quad Q8200
4 GB of RAM (2 x 2 GB)
PNY GeForce 7300
500 GB SATA disk
IDE based DVD-RW drive
and a budget case with a 450W p/s and an Intel heat sink
I did purchase a real Apple Leopard distribution DVD at my local Apple store
I also downloaded a copy of iDeneb 10.5.5
OK, I installed iDeneb 10.5.5 and it installed. I used the standard BIOS (2801) without mod. I used the CUSTOMIZE option to disable some stuff I don't want such as language support, etc and it installed.
The video seems OK.
The Wi-Fi works and I can browse the web.
The audio does not work.
The USB does not work.
I have not tested the wired LAN.
I have not tested Firewire
How do I get the audio and USB working? I know almost nothing about a Mac but I want to learn. All of my experience has been with PCs and I'm learning to hate them...more each day.
Please help me and I'll gladly help the next one.
Glad to be part of your blog - thanks Katie

Thank you for that help. My audio now does work and works well. All seems to work now except for my wired LAN (wireless works). The LAN chipset is a Marvell 88e8053 (on the motherboard) but the OS thinks it is a Realtek RTL8187B

Marvell 88E8053 support
I have googled this part but I don't know what to do with the info. I'm going to sound dumb but what is the HCL?
Thanks...Katie

HCL and drivers
I have browsed a few HCLs (hardware compatibility lists???) and some older ones list my motherboard while others do not. I purchased this motherboard because so many articles listed it as "highly compatible". As I mentioned in other posts, everything else seems to work just fine (not checked the firewire but right now, I don't really care) except for the wired LAN ports (RJ45). If I found a suitable driver, I didn't recognize it. It would have had to hit me in the face and shout my name. Once it did hit me in the face, it would have to then tell me how to install it.
