Hi, I am about to install iPC OSx86 10.5.6 Universal PPF5 (Final) on an XPS m1530, there are lots of configuration options, if anyone can help me pick them I would greatly appreciate it, it would also help other 1530 users in the future. Thanks

    Default Working

    Ok,

Although it seems strange talking to myself I think that I should share my settings for those that wish to use this release, first of all, it works great, wireless, yes I said wireless worked without a single kink. In my case, I had to install http://neosmart.net/downloads/softwa...Build%2040.exe in windows because i kept getting a boot0/boot1 error at start after install, i would suggest considering a way to boot into windows if this happens to you, and then add a boot option for mac os using this program

I also experienced an image loading error, meaning that you download a file and when you open it, the OS crashes, to prevent this, make sure you install seatbelt.kext, or you can simply access all of the packages and kexts from the cd after you install the OS, use a kext loader to install them easier.

For my configuration, the one listed in the first post, I picked:

    iPC OSx86 10.5.6 Base System

    ▼ iPC OSx86 10.5.6 Intel AMD SSE2 SSE3

I don't think that I picked the kernel

Video Driver: NVinject 0.2.1 256MB VRAM

    Chipset Driver: LegacyApplelntelPIIXATA

Audio Driver: The onboard 9228 driver thats selectable in the configuration did not work for me, I simply installed VoodooHDA.kext, find it online somewhere.

Ethernet, I have not found a solution for this yet, since its not an urgent issue I will look for it later this week, see if different kexts will work.

Wireless: Broadcom Driver worked for me right away.

The rest you can try yourself, I would suggest installing some of the apps like chameleon and the kext installed.

    Default Help :)

    Hi Grishman,

I got exactly the same Dell laptop M1530 as you . I'm impressed you successfully made iPC OSx86 10.5.6 Universal PPF5 (Final) image work on it !!

After I spent hours reading forums tutorials and downloading various OSx86 image, it still got the same install problem.

For instance with the same image as you I got (as other images) the following message on the first b/w screen I see when the dvd boot :
system config file 'com.apple.boot.s/library/preferences/systemconfiguration/com.apple.boot.plist' not found.

Have you got any idea about this kind of problem ?

I didn't found any working solution yet (still reading forums :p )

    Thanks !!

    Default Re:Problem

    Hi, H4MB

Sorry it took so long to respond, i have been studying, the problem that you are experiencing may be due to the checksum,

To do a checksum on the image, download a program called MD5 Check Utility, you can find it in google, first load the image and run the verify checksum, if it tells you that the image is not good, run the create checksum option, then after it is complete run the verify again and it should be green. After this, burn your image on the dvd and then try to load it. If anymore problems arise, I will try to help

    Default It almost works !

Finally, I think it was due to an invalid iso or bad dvd +rw issue.

One of my friend gave me a dvd +r with the same image iPC OSx86 10.5.6 Final and I didn't get the booting problem anymore...

I also installed the official 10.5.7 update very easily (download install/reboot/works ). It now works almost perfectly still having trouble with the sound card Sigmatel STAC9228 and Ethernet card but I found solutions on many forums I just need more time to try it.

As soon as I get all work I will post the install configuration I choose and a step by step guide (with detailed problems/solutions).

Thanks for your advices Grishman !

I think that I forgot to make the correction, the Sigmatel driver did not work for me aswell, I believe that I installed the AppleHDA kext. As for the ethernet card, I have not spent the time looking for a solution, I know one exists because it worked in a previous install, not IPC but Kalyway. Thanks for the update infor, I have been hesitant to install it because 1 month ago I screwed wifi up by accidentally choosing the update airport update.

    Default Sound card OK

I am getting closer and closer to a perfect setup.

Finally, my sound card Sigmatel STAC9228 works almost fine : External and Internal Speakers OK, Ext Mic OK but Int Mic doesn't work ( O dont need it anyway). Ethernet card : not checked.

Quartz GL is working but I am still not able to make Quartz Extreme working for NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT even with the NVinject 0.2.1 256MB VRAM. MacInfo says Quartz Extreme : Not Supported. I didn't check this when I was on 10.5.6 so I actually don't know if there are any issue with my update to 10.5.7.

Grishman do you have Quartz Extreme working on your setup ?

I have a m1530 with a similar config I got up and running today. Everything is working now wireless, Ethernet, sound, updated to 10.5.7.

My only issue is that on restarts and reboots it will hang at a black screen. I installed the Shutdown/Restart Fix included in the distro, but it didnt resolve.

Any thoughts or suggestions on what you did to get yours working.

    Cheers
