Default Leopard on AW M17 (Perhaps on USB or ExpressCard)

    Fellas,

If you cannot help, then I will give up my endeavor. However, I am hoping you can help me out here. I am trying to get Leopard running on my system but I am not using my Hard Drives. Instead I would like to install to a USB or perhaps an ExpressCard SSD, but more on that later.

I have tried to install it to a USB Key first to see if the system works and then I would repeat the procedure on my ExpressCard SSD as my computer can boot from it.

I have tried 2 distros and nothing. Let me tell you what I have done so far.

    With Leo4All V3:

Followed this guide to install to an 8GB Micro SDHC card from Sandisk, just like the article says since I have the same card. It's from the OSx86 Project

The thing installs fine as far as I can tell, but when I finally reboot from the USB containing Leopard it gives me the screen with all the white text and at the bottom some 4 APG or so errors and then nothing happens...

During the install I left the options exactly as they were except that I added ATI Graphics Drivers and nForce (since that's what the article said ???).

Since that didn't work I gave iAtkos (v5 I think) a try and again picked ATI drivers and nForce. Very early during the installation to the USB Key it said "Installation Failed" due to an unknown error. Tried again. Same error.

Now, if somebody could point me to the right direction would be awesome. I try but cannot find any info. It's hard to believe no one with an AW M17 has tried this.

    My Specs:

    Alienware M17:
    Intel Core 2 Duo
Dual ATI Mobility Radeon™ HD 3870
    DDR3 Memory 4GB
    Intel® PM45 + ICH9M-E Chipset (?) (That's what the website says, so I guess that's what my laptop has)

I already have Vista and Linux on 2 separate hard drives so I've seem my share of headaches but this one is winning.

    Any takers?

    Thanks for the reply.

It's Intel PM45. I don't see it in the 10.5.2 HLC but it appears others have made it run (although not in the same computer I have).

    Default Solved

    Fellas,

I am confirming that iDeneb v1.4 is the only distro that will work on the AW M17 as far as I know.

Credit to davelewis7 over at insanelymac for his dead-on suggestions. Thanks bro.

Everything works out of the box, even wireless. Only thing missing? Install ATI HD3870 x2 drivers

TIP: If you have an M17 just load up iDeneb v1.4 leave the drivers the way they are, only add the wireless RTL8187SE driver and you are good to go.
