Yes. What are you waiting for?
You don't have to wait for root device!!!
Set it to AHCI and see if it pass through the waiting for root device error.

i just tried to boot from dvd after setting it to AHCI, its still wating for root device. i tried ide -> AHCI mode and it went even quicker but hung up, and raid hung up as well.
they all seem to be hanging after a message about my firewire card it says its going into "full secure" mode or something.
i have a firewire card in one of my pci-e slots. could that be a problem? (i need this firewire card though i use it every day)

There will be trouble with installation and device drivers, and so on. This is hackintosh with no support from hardware/software manufacturers, and you will be the one who do it.
So if you've encountered any problem then you would be the one who would solve it.
You could try to take out the firewire card and see if it pass through the error, and if the waiting for root devive.. still there, which should not be.

May need to finish OSX installation first, then find correct driver for your card.
Post your result.

I also moved your thread to the correct Leopard section, instead of the original SL posting section as your question pertaining to 10.5.x.
Sorry for any inconvenience this may cause.
