Default installing ideneb 1.5 (10.5.8) on AMD Athlon with nVidia chipset.. help!

I got OS X working on my pentium4, and i thought that was hard. using it right now because it is so much easier to use than windows. (not to mention easier to read !)
anyways, on my AMD, i tried the iatkos v1.5 distro to boot it into the installer. it gets far enough with no tags to get to the gray apple screen, then after about 5 minutes the 'error' symbol comes up. (the circle with a line through it) at the top of the apple.
so i reboot, and use -V, and this is what it gives me:

"Still waiting for root device", over and over again, for about 3 minutes, then it says 'IOATA device blocking bus'.

I have read that that is due to the nVidia chipset; however, i do see the drivers for the chipset being loaded just prior to the 'root device' error. I have tried booting with -v -x -f, and same problem.
    here are the system specs

    AMD Athlon 64 X2 2.8GHz 5600+
    nVidia chipset
    abit NF-M2SV motherboard
    500GB Sata hard drive
    Sony Sata dvd-rw drive
    Realtek 5.1 built in audio
    PCI-E Geforce 7950GT 512MB

    any ideas?
    Intel core 2 quad q6600 2.4ghz
    ASUS P4K motherboard
    4GB DDR2-800
    eVGA GEFORCE 9800gtx

    2x250GB
    OSX SNOW LEOPARD 10.6.8

I will admit I haven't tried installing from an IDE DVD rom to an IDE hard drive, could that be an issue? Or do i need a patch? Keep in mind i have no control over the drivers cuz I can't even get into the installer

I got to hit the road. So here some real quick for you.
nForce chipsets is not really the problem. Your nForce is not fully AHCI supported, at least not the MCP61/67 series. SATA AHCI is what OSX uses, and your chipsets SATA controller, even if installed/loaded, still would have some issue.
So, to make it real easy, try to bypass the HDD SATA controller with your IDE controller instead.
Use your IDE HDD first to see if you can pass through that waiting for root error. SATA DVD may be ok.

Try those and post your result.

You'll love your AMD. Mine is x64 4800+ at 2.5 Ghz. I oclock it at 3.25 Ghz and it runs beatifully. My board is Asus M2A-VM AHCI supported though.

Use IDE HDD and load your DVD installer to see if you can pass the waiting... error.

okay no errors so far.. had to disconnect the SATA system alltogether. i had forgotten how badly i hate IDE until now. such a PITA!!! waiting at the grey apple screen. testing with no hard drive hooked up. and it just froze, looks like its getting ready to load the installer screen. will post up results when they happen. (boy do i like Mac OS X on my 22" widescreen monitor.. so easy to read and looks awesome!!)

well ill be darned... it actually came up. so i get to turn it off, hook up the hard drive, then turn it back on.
a question bout unhooking the SATA though... how would i load back into windows? once OS X is installed will i be able to hook the sata back up?

That is good news. So my theory is correct about bypassing the installer scripts for SATA controller to look for HDD.

Yes, you could hook your SATA HDD back and also use Chameleon to boot both of your OSX and Windows.
I also use my SL on 22" widescreen and it looks beautiful.

About installation, your IDE controller driver would probably be generic appleIntelPXIIATA, so make sure you select that to try first (during customization).
And you may need some boot option as well. Try with -x -v first then will add more in if needed.
Best way to tell is watching the installer after the line: waiting for UUID.... then it would say Got boot device.. and along that line, OSX will tell you what kexts it's loading for your HDD, and that is what you select for IDE driver.
    Post your results.

Okay it's installed. Rebooted, then had the chameleon 2.0 bootloader screen, then it went to a grey apple screen for about 3 minutes, then a circle with a line through it appeared. I rebooted with -v, and I'm getting a "still waiting for root device" error.
Before the root device message, it says "waiting on <dict ID="0"><key>IOProviderCLass</key><string ID="1">IOResources<\string><key>IOResourceMatch<\k ey><string ID="2">boot-uuid-media</string></dict>

Sorry i meant all backslashes, I'm on an iPhone cuz my Dell hack refuses to load safari, keeps crashing.
