You just made it more complicated than what it should.

    1. You may have killed OSX MBR/Chameleon by replacing its boot sector with windows MBR sector.

    2. There is no need to repair windows boot sector or MBR for dual booting with 2 hdd/2 os's. Remember: during all the time you're doing OSX, you've never touched windows disk MBR (the hard drive was not even there at all). My post earlier said you could use Chameleon to boot Windows, did I ever mention that you need to do any repair? You need to point it to the right volume/partition where window7 boot manager is at, not its system partition.

I got to hit the road. So let me know.

thats the conclusion i came to when i was mowing my yard. looks like ill have to boot off the cd and reinstall chameleon, lets see if that works.
though why did it give me that BootMGR is missing message when i tried booting windows?

update: yep, looks like i killed it, i selected to install only the bootloader, and install failed because it could not startup from my mac os x disk. looks like im reformatting... crap...

okay it is already back up. i reformatted and reloaded. im getting quite good at installing this... LOL!
    now on to booting windows...
thinking all i have to do is select windows as the primary partition, right?

edit: there it goes... it gave a 'system reserved' at chameleon, and i hit that. (it gave OS X, System reserved, and Windows NTFS). i now have a dual boot OS X/Windows system!

It should work with some tweaking, maybe. For Leopard, I've never heard of any problem yet, but for SL there may be some, although I think most people happy with it.

If you just want a good one/cheap and performance, get the 8400 GS 512 MB as I have 2 of those for around $20 to $30 and that is working with 10.5.8 latest Leopard and latest SL 10.6.4 with full QE/CI supported.

But again it's up to you. Make sure that you purchase it where they honor exchange/return just in case.
    EDIT: it's the PCIe v2.0

you have 2 of those for around 20 or 30? are you saying you're selling them, or that you have purchased them for around that price for various systems?

I'm sorry that I didn't make it clear.
I bought 2 of those for my systems, and they're around that price, neweggs about $30, if you can get some local discount it would be cheaper.
It was one of the sought-after card, cheap/good performance, full QE/CI.
    And it's the PCIe 2.0 512 MB 8400 GS.

okay, will keep that in mind.
as for the time being, i decided to play with my 7950 some more. i found a string installer app that was compatible with this card on insanelymac, so i put it in and reboot. it came up with a black screen with a live cursor. though something minor is wrong.. dual screens work. i can move the cursor from my main screen to my secondary screen. do i have to change the memory size in the plist file from 512 to 256 (so it wont be conflicting with the bootloader) ?

okay, update. the system will load in safe mode. ( -x ). dual monitors works flawlessly in safe mode, i have all resolutions/refresh rates, but no QE/CI. (obviously.. safe mode). the card is read and recognized for what it is, except the memory is reported as 256MB and not 512MB.

when i boot into regular mode, it hangs on startup. grey apple screen with circle and a line through it at the top of the apple. error. it will load if i boot with -v. however, it will show a blue screen for a second or 2, then go black with a live cursor. i read somewhere about having to remove the loginwindow, then copy it back. any thoughts? im THIS close... i can feel it.
