Default Installation complete - now what?

First of all I hope this is the correct forum... it is a kinda Installation issue.

After very many attempts, I have at last got 10.5.5 working, however I am of the opinion that I must now need to install a GFX card driver. I don't appear to have acceleration on the various graphical effects.

I am from a Linux background and usually the first thing I do after installing the distro, is install the nVidia driver. I am guessing this is also needed with OS X?

I have searched the web for the last day or so and even tried installing various GUIs which supposedly contain drivers for nVidia cards. These have all ended in me having to re-install OS X.

When I installed OS X, I selected NVinject but under EFI section I could not find my card listed (nVidia GF 7950GT 256M RAM). I have read various posts talking about kexts and editing plist files etc. Now, I am no stranger to editing files, being from Linux but I need some very basic assistance as to what I need to do now.

I know someone will reply with "Google is your friend" but I have tried lots of things already. I just don't want to bork this installation now. I'm fed up re-installing. Could someone advise me where to go from here and how I can get OpenGL / 3D acceleration working. I will include my hardware details below.

Mobo: Asus P5B Deluxe Wifi A/P

    GFX: XFX GF7950GT XXX edition
    Chipset Model: Graphics by NVIDIA
    Type: Display
    Bus: PCIe
    PCIe Lane Width: x16
    VRAM (Total): 256 MB
    Vendor: NVIDIA (0x10de)
    Device ID: 0x0295
    Revision ID: 0x00a1
    ROM Revision: NVinject 0.2.1

    RAM: 2GB
    Display: 2 x ViewSonic VP201b flat panels
    PS2 keyboard
    USB mouse

    Many Thanks.

Check shadowscrawl post... heres a bit:

flashed my cards bios with the rom from your repository (the same that you made for chaplin) and it worked beautifuly (thankfully i allready knew how to do it since the flashing tutorial seemed to be down everytime i checked it) i then loaded into leopard and installed zephyroths universal nvidia installer (details are available on zephyroths wiki wich i dont seem to be alowed to link to from here since this is my first ever post here) then i rebooted but stil nothing
ok i got impatient and decided to have a go at fixing it on my own so i went through and removed everything i had done up till now and then reinstalled with the official kext from this site and other then it taking about 5 minutes to get my login screen up it worked beautifully and i am now looking at full hardware accelleration

    gotoh your a god
