M500sesp, Was just curious what hardware you have on your 1720? I have the same laptop and have been having issues. Most of the time it starts the install and at about 80% through it just reboots.

    My specs:
    Dell Inspiron 1720
    Intel Core 2 Duo CPU T8300 @ 2.40GHz (Penryn)
    nVidia 8600 GTS
    160G Serial Ata 9.5,5.4,SE080
    2Gigs DD2 667Mhz

Any tips you can provide would also be greatly appreciated.

    Hi,
That's the same set up I have. Even the Video card in it. One thing that helped me was trying different flavors of the boot disk. If you read through my posts it should help you through the bumps once you get the initial install to go through.
The iAtkos v5 is what ended up working. Oh and for some reason it boots best if I leave the install DVD in the drive. Not booting from it but just leaving it in. Not sure why that is but... I dual boot Vista and the iAtkos. It really looks good on that laptop. I even installed World of Warcraft and got it to run. And it looks great. with all the graphics turned most of the way up.

    Question

    Scenario:
I tried differrant versions of the OSx86 installers and the one that ended up working for me is iATKOS 5i.

Bear in mind I am totaly new to this.

I ran the install with several differant options and it would lock up every time. Then I did the install with pretty much all options checked and it worked!!! However the laptops, (Dell Inspiron 1720) keyboard and mouse don't work, but a USB keyboard and mouse do work. Also the sound doesn't work. The OS sees it but no sound comes out. I've been doing a lot of reading but I am just not putting together how to add or check the drivers etc.

    Thanks,
    Sam
Hiya. Congratulations on getting your Inspiron to work. I have the exact lock-up problem after boot. The only way I get to complete the Installation process (where it actually shows "Installation Complete" and you get a few seconds of countdown before it restarts) is when I deselect all of the listed kernels (I've read that this installs the Vanilla Kernel if you do not choose any of the listed ones i.e. Voodoo, toh, etc).

The problem is, I still get the same problem after I tried reinstalling iatkos v5i on my Inspiron 1720 with ALL the drivers option ticked. Just to note though that I did not ick anything else but the actual option drivers, which selects every single driver from the iatkos disc. Has anyone really found a step-by-step guide on installing iatkos v5i on an Inspiron 1720 or similar?

Hello fellow Inspiron 1720 users. I am posting my installation ticklist so we can figure out which setup works. Please note that I still haven't got mine to work and I would advise that other users start a similar job of making a wordpad (if you have another PC at home) by informing other people what doesn't work, and hopefully, manage to get an Inspiron 1720 in a fully running OS. Here's my first two tries:

Hey, I too am an Inspiron 1720 user.
I have had limited success installing iAtkos 5i, sometimes getting a "keyboard not recognized", or a "please restart", or a "slist not found".

I was just wondering if anyone who did succeed post their install configs!

    Thank you so much!

EDIT: The gray 'please restart' window is actually the OSX kernel panic!
    Any ideas?
