    Default iDeneb v1.3 boot loop

I'm a new member to this site. I have a MSI PM8M-V motherboard with VIA PM800 chipset and onboard video/sound. Here's a link to the board: http://global.msi.com.tw/index.php?f...=170&cat3_no=4

I installed a version of Leopard on a 30gb hard drive dual boot with xp my first time following a guide. Installation was easy (except the four hour install time!) and the program worked great except for my video and ethernet. I worked with it for about a half hour and decided I wanted to put it on a bigger hard drive. I had a Maxtor 200gb laying around so tried to install on that solely. Installation went well but would not boot. I started tearing into the forums and found that Maxtor wasn't supported by Leopard in any way/shape/form. In the meantime I found iDeneb v1.3. I'm not sure what was the first version I used to install. I thought maybe if I used iDeneb maybe there was a fix for my hard drive. Installed again and nothing still with the maxtor. (Install time on ideneb was only like 25 mins which was very nice).

So back to the 30gb. I tried installing the ideneb version on this as it was newer than the one I put on the day before. This time I got a constant boot loop. When I installed the first version of Leopard I had I left all options checked in customize and it worked perfectly. This time it waiting a little longer to boot loop but still had errors. I've tried several combinations since and still get the boot loop.

So being impatient I decided to just put the old Leapard I had on. The four hour install went great but the hard drive will not boot. It looks for a cd and then thats it. My boot sequence is right. I tried f8 and select hard drive and still nothing. I can't figure it out.

I would really like to install ideneb so if anyone has any suggestions how to get around the boot loop or what settings I should use I'd really appriciate the help. I'm a apple virgin so have no experience with and terminal codes.

    Thanks for the help!

Damn everything is VIA, long time ago was a guy trying to this, everything was VIA I believe he didnt make it, now you have to do some research with VIA and OSX Installed, anyway check if ideneb have a VIA Chipset patched in the customize part, this have to be the major problem T_T

Yes it does. On my second combination of customize I tried ONLY installing that chipset and a couple of the fixes, but with no success. Same error. The last version worked perfectly with the exception of the video and ethernet, but that can be fixed. If it worked on that one it should work on Deneb right? Are there any major differences between the two versions? I think the other was 10.5.1? I mean if theres not maybe I should focus on the other. I really like Deneb because of the fast isntall time. 30 mins compared to 4 hours - I can troubleshoot so much faster.

I dont think the previous version was ideneb. It was version 10.5.1 I think. It didn't have a name when I acquired it from the usual places.

I did try that one again though last night. This morning when I checked it (did the install overnight since its so long) everything appear right. Restarted and took the disk out. The bios loads and checks IDE and stuff, then says "verifying ...." and then thats it. It won't boot. It's like it doesn't even see the drive. It is there though. And my bios settings are identical to what they were. The only difference is I'm not dual booting with xp. Now when I did dual boot, the first step was to go into cmd in xp and make the partition I make for Leopard the primary parition. Do I need to do something to make it boot? It is currently the only OS in the 30 gb hard drive and the whole hard drive it partitioned to HFS.

Is it true that Maxtor is not compatible with Leopard? I'm going to post on craigslist or something and straight up trade with someone for another hard drive. I know its a good drive. It was installed previously as a slave for storage previously and I wiped it when I took it from the junk computer.

I dont think the HDD is incompatible, if your using the whole disk to install leopard try with GUID as Partition Scheme, no MBR, anyway try with that one 10.5.1, you can always update to the latest post installation.

Ok well tried to change some bios settings but i dont have dual core so it was useless. Messed with some settings like shutting off ethernet/sound, changing boot sequence. Still won't even get to the Darwin boot loader. So I'm going to try to install iDeneb again and hope I get the right combination of options in customize. I'm at work daily early to late so its going to take a few weeks probably. I'll keep posting any results just in case there's some other person out there trying to install with my same setup. I'll make it work some how, some way
