Distros wont work with your system, unless you run just one core and voodoo kernel, to get full support you need to install OSX Retail with DSDT patch, try munkys guide and google a bit for more info

    Default Don't give up!

    I have retail 10.5.1 running using a Boot-132 disk on a
P6T MB, Intel i7 920 CPU, 6Gb RAM, SATA HD & SATA DVD system.

You have to alter your bios settings before you begin.
If you google "M J i7 920 Asus P6T" the insanelymac guide is very detailed.

It was a pain getting this far, and now I'm having a hard time with the next steps - probably due to my lack of skill.

But it is possible, so keep trying and good luck.
