HP Mini 2140 - Keyboard and Touchpad problem
Hi there,
I installed iDeneb 1.4 (10.5.6) on my HP Mini Note 2140 netbook, and I have a problem getting the keyboard and touchpad to work.
OS X won't accept any input from my keyboard and touchpad at all, its as if they weren't there. A USB keyboard and a USB mouse work perfectly.
Strangely, I found out that when I booted with the -v option, the keyboard works while the console messages are shown on the screen, but once the graphical interface starts up, the interface doesn't take any input from the keyboard (and touchpad) at all.
What does work, however, is setting the brightness with the corresponding keyboard buttons.
Can anyone guide me in the right direction? Are there any kexts that I need to install for it to work, or something else that I can try out?

I found out that after trying my luck with a few kexts (PS2Fix, Synaptics Enabler, ...) that did not work on first sight that now I can get my keyboard working with a little trick.
After booting into OS X the keyboard and trackpad do not work. Then, using a USB mouse, I start up System Preferences and go into "Trackpad" I toggle the "Clicking" Checkbox, then the keyboard starts to work.
The keyboard works as long as I don't touch the trackpad, the trackpad itself never works. Once I touch the trackpad, the keyboard goes back to non-working mode again until I toggle the "clicking" checkbox in the trackpad preferences.
Is there any log file (system.log doesnt say anything about this) where I can see whats going on here? Or does anyone have any idea what I could try next?

Hi there,
I cant help on the keyboard issue.
But I am very interested as to how everything else is running, BT, Wifi, Sound ect.
What is the operating speed like?
A mini review would be very useful.
I'm looking on buying the HD version which is now available.
Thanks in advance

UPDATE
----------------------------
i tried the new voodooPS2 kext - it works.
Now I have an almost fully working HP Mini 2140. Keyboard works, Trackpad works (including 2 finger scrolling), battery works, cpu speed throttling works, the fan works, the display works, brightness keys work, sound works, volume keys work, wireless works, webcam works (at least sometimes, see below).
OPEN ISSUES
----------------------------
- Sleep on lid close and on the apple-menu->sleep does not seem to fully work. It does not really go into sleep mode. It shuts off the display, and it takes a few seconds to come back after I open the lid, but it didnt fully go into sleep, because the power light and wireless light still are fully lit (as opposed to a blinking power light in "real" sleep)
- Even though sound output works, the internal microphone does not, and is not even seen by system preferences. UPDATE: this problem is fixed - i'm now using VoodooHDA, which makes the internal microphone work perfectly.
- When connecting headphones to the headphone jack, the sound is still played through the internal speakers and NOT on the headphone. I haven't found a way to make this work yet.
- Even though the webcam sometimes works, often there is a problem with the USB high-speed bus (EHCI), which is sometimes not found/initialized, and then cannot be seen under "USB" in System Profiler.
- The Ethernet port does not work. This is because there is no driver for the built in Gigabit Ethernet chip yet (at least none that I know of - Marvell Yukon Gigabit with pci device id 436c)
If anyone has any solution to these open issues, please enlighten us all.
REVIEW OF OSX ON HP 2140
-----------------------------------
Vimeo HD videos seem to work, Apple Quicktime 720p Trailers also work very nicely, although 1080p trailers drop a few frames, but are watchable, the sound does not stutter.
I tried a few very high quality 720p and 1080p mkv's in VLC - this is where a netbook has its limits. Both of these stutter quite a bit, and while 720p stays "watchable", 1080p mkvs are not really watchable by my standards.
iTunes works perfectly as far as I have tested it up to now. iPhoto also works fast and problem-free.
The overall speed feeling is very nice, nothing feels sluggish or slow.
I cannot compare to XP cause I never had that installed. Compared to ubuntu, os x feels a little bit faster on this machine.
I've got the 1 GB RAM model with the 5k rpm 160 GB HDD.

About the issues, the problem with sleep is a pain with 10.5.6, theres lots of thread about it, try this... go to system preferences, then energy, go to advanced tab, then active all the options, it should fix the issue, if it doesnt work you can try another solution, google it.
With the audio, the problem is the drivers, if you know linux and stuff you'll know theres lots of missed drivers, same here, cuz ppl dont have time enough to fix the problem to everybody for free, so some drivers are limited just to speakers :/ you can always try to fix your own, theres some guides about how to do it using the drivers from linux.
Dunno about cameras and stuff like that
Whats your LAN chipset?
Thx for sharing your info about the Laptop, if this lappy its not in the HCL please post it, so others users can use your info.

Hi zoppola,
I'm trying to install iDeneb v1.4 10.5.6 on my HP mini 2140, but the buttons to proceed with the install at the bottom of the screen are not appearing on my display! I cannot click on the "continue" button because it doesn't show!
How did you get past this problem?
I've found other posts of users having the same issue!

Hey buddy, i'd just like to ask one thing, is the fan still having issues? *doesn't work when you're on osx? Am contemplating on buying a netbook again and the 2140 HD is my prime choice, if the fan is working well (having some issues on some 2140 users) then I would definitely get the 2140 in a heartbeat. Thanks!

VoodooPS2Controller-0.98-installer.pkg made the trackpad and keyboard work perfectly on my 2140HD
