How to update to new versions of mac osx?

Hi guys, im new here i am a total newbie at this stuff. i am stuff with mac because i deleted my vista os and i dont have the restore cd. i love it so far and i love i deneb 10.5.5. however, without getting too technical, is there a program i can use to update to newer versions of leopard?

just read the guide and it sounds awesome but
how would i create a backup of the extensions folder?

How to update to 10.5.8

install Disabler.kext

install this Dsmos.kext ( a bit updated to be present in mkext)

reboot

create backup of Extensions folder. just in case:

sudo cp -rf /System/Library/Extensions /System/Library/Extensions_old
update !

if something is wrong with your drivers after update - u have a backup

some info:

for radeon HD 48×0 users, binary of Motmot wasnt updated, so if u used patched framebuffers, should work fine still.

for radeon HD 4870×2 4890 4830 users - you will loose qe/ci/3d after update, wait for proper patch.

Dont remove AppleIntelCPUPM.kext until install finished, or it will stop with error.

how do i install kexts?

To install kexts you can use kext helper or osx86 tools, google it

to backup your extensions you can run terminal and type:

sudo cp -rf /System/Library/Extensions /System/Library/Extensions_old

or just copy the extension folder to your desktop or somewhere else

ah, thanks alot man! i tried kext helper 7 but it says it is unable to access my root file because the password is wrong. i tried adding a root password, and tried rremoving the root password, same error.

ok so i tried osx86 tools and it seems to have successfully installed the kexts. However, when i click " About this Mac " i seem to be still running on 10.5.5 . What's going on?

@.o; what OSX version are you running? if you are in 10.5.5 and you wanna update to 10.5.8, try updating 1st to 10.5.6 with delta update from apple
