    Lightbulb HELP! Toshiba U405 S2833

I have installed the iPC 10.5.6 for almost 10 times already
but my problem is that after finishing installation, reboot and all i get is a black screen.

meaning its possible that my display driver is wrong
but according to Everest, my display driver is Intel X3100

what could possibly be wrong in my installation?
    please help
maybe someone has successfully installed OS X on a Toshiba U405

    Thanks!

That almost sounds like video related problem. It very well could be wrong/incompatible kext.
You could try to delete it and see as OSX could boot to VESA mode to desktop.

Yes, I'm also new at this as well, and wouldn't do good job in enlightening you.

As my suggestion, delete video kext so however you like to carry it out.

If you have windows/macdrive then just navigate to /S/L/E and move those kexts out, or you could try reinstall without any video driver.

Worst case as with some other video cards, those kexts would need to be removed with Terminal command after installation.

You have other OSX running, so check out /S/L/E folder and see what kexts are in there.

If this is your 10th installation and it's still not working then there would be more. I have one that after the 50+ time still won't work, so you're not getting the record yet.

This is just one of the most likely possibilities. There may be other problem which could cause the black screen. Still, it wouldn't hurt to try because the installation would not work anyway.

You could try kexts.com for driver.
Some of those X3100 kexts are not compatible.

Do you get OSX installing without problem, and actually on its desktop?
Actually, OSX uses generic driver in VESA mode (as most of the modern OS's do when dedicated driver is not available), and that is the video display from installation to OSX desktop.

Well done for getting it up and running.

Yes, any bad kext in system could crash it (be it for audio, network, video etc.), so you need to be careful, and one at a time. And you also could boot with -x, safe mode to remove it just in case, or use single mode Terminal if you remember the kext name.

Check in System Profiler (in Utilities), there will list all of your hardware that OSX recognize. Under Graphics/Display it will list your device and whether QE/CI supported. You will need the correct kext to enable this, as without it there won't be any good video/DVD playing and many software/utility won't work. See if you can open Front Row.

Try the one you have first, if not working then would need to look for one. Also you could check device/model ID for network cards to find kexts for them.
