Hey everyone. I'm attempting to install to the 2nd primary partition of my A505-S6965. I pre-prepped the drive, allocating 100GB just for OSX86 using gparted. Here are some specs:

Intel® Core™2 Duo Processor P7350
Genuine Windows Vista® Home Premium (SP1, 64-bit)
4GB DDR2 800MHz memory
500GB HDD (5400rpm)
Slot-Loading DVD SuperMulti (+/- Double Layer) with Labelflash®
Intel® Wi-Fi Link 5100AGN (802.11a/g/
ATI® Mobility Radeon™ HD 4570
1-ExpressCard™ Slot
S/P DIF output port (shared with headphone port), Memory Card Reader
3-USB (2.0), 1-eSATA/USB (2.0) combo port with Sleep and Charge
i.LINK™ IEEE-1394
HDMI-CEC output port

I have tried several different boot options with different results. When I attempt with no boot options, the installer hangs.

When I use -v -x, I get the Still Waiting For Root Device to infinity. Same with -v -f. I have also tried specifying

vanilla -v -x

or

vanilla -v -f

Same result.

When I attempt to use a flag to direct the drive, I don't get much further -- I get a kernel panic

I'm at a loss of how to begin to fix this. Any input or advice is helpful, I've found nobody else who has even mentioned this machine anywhere on the web. I am using the iPC 10.5.6 installer with the required PPF patch slipstreamed.

SOLUTION (so far):

This system has AHCI set by default. In order to get the installer to begin, I had to change to Compatibility Mode in the BIOS. Thanks to IDKnow for the assistance.

Further, during the install, AHCI has to be inserted in order to make it work. Once the install is done, switch back to AHCI in the BIOS. I will post my results, positive or negative, tomorrow. However, this change got the installer to begin at least.

I'm under the impression I'm stuck for a while. My graphics card, ATI M92 (Mobility Radeon HD 4500 series), doesn't appear to have a kext that I can find. Here's what's happening:

After install, the bootloader (chameleon v2) comes up and boots into OSX. I get the grey screen with the Apple logo, then the screen goes totally grey except for some pixellated bits across the screen.

I have to presume this is a graphics issue, but I am hoping there is a workaround.

I'm finding it to be a challenge to authenticate what my exact chipset for this machine as well. I'm close to giving up, but hey -- it may not be the time to install this right now. I'm willing to accept that.

However, if anyone has any experience with installing to the Intel Mobile 4 Series Chipset and my specific ATI card, I appreciate your input. If you know of a workaround or other options I should try, please let me know & thank you in advance. I appreciate your time and assistance.

I found that in 10.5.7, there is a kext which offers support for the graphics card in this machine. Specifically, ATIRadeonX2000.kext claims to support it.

One step closer, I will report back with results. If that helps anyone trying to install to this machine, let me know your results as well.

Well, I aborted this project about a week ago, here's why:

OSX will not work with my built-in display. I am told it will work if I plug in an external monitor, but otherwise it's a wash. I'm going to hold out for drivers for OSX and hope they come someday soon. Welp, Windows 7, here I come.

i will try. i am using ideneb 10.5.5 on a dell studio 15. what graphics option should i select when i install ideneb? should i go out and find ipc and update it to 10.5.7 or should i update ideneb to 10.5.7?
let me know. right now i have windows 7 on my laptop and nothing else.

help im doing the same thing.. has anyone installed this successfully on a a505-s6965 toshiba laptop yet? if so, what exactly did you do? i want to do a full install without dual booting with windows. sorry for bringing up an old thread. thanks.
