Formatting Hard Drive Before Installing?
Do I need to format my Hard drive if I wish to install Kalyway on it first, or do I format only after I finish the installation?
Just asking becase I tried it a few times with different versions and it always stops and I'm thinking its the harddrive.
Any advice here?
Thanks

Format, then install.
Formatting after installation will remove all data from the drive.

You have to format your HDD as Extended Journaled, with disk utility in the utilities menu, try that and report back if it work

Formatting a new hard drive for install
Guys,
How can I format my new hard drive if I can't even access the utilities?
When I boot from the CD-ROM it goes right into the install and then fails and stops. So I never get to see the utilities. Am I missing something here?
Thanks

Formatting Hard Drive Before Installing ???
I was told that since I am installing Kalyway on a brand new hard drive and not on a duel boot system, I would need to format my HD as Extended Journaled first before trying to install Kalyway.
Can someone please tell me how I can do this? I haven't ever formatted a mac HD before and I don't know what utilites I need to do this.
Please advise.
Thanks
S

Yes you said to use the utilities, but my Kalyway install disc doesn't include any utilities. At least I don't see any. I boot up for a cd-rom and it launches the installtion. Then the installation stops probably due to the fact that the HD is not formateed, so how do I get to the utilities you mentioned in your post.

When you boot from the DVD - you should come to the installer, which is a bit like a wizard.
If you look to the menubar at the of the screen, there should be a menu named "Utilities". If you select that you should see a load of different utilities - "Network utility", "RAID utility" etc - now you should be able to select one named "Disk Utility".
Open that up and select the "Erase" tab, from here you can make a quick one-partition set-up. After that, just exit Disk Utility and you should return too the installer, exactly where you left off.
Hope this makes sense!
