Ive tried using versions of kalyway and other makes of leopard in the past on a old computer always to get screwed because of a messed up boot loader.. i have yet to try on this pc and if you can help with me getting started that would be lovely..
what i'd like to do is keep my xp on one hd and put leopard on the second...
Note: i have access to a retail leopard disk.

what distribution / guide/package should i start downloading if any.
Suggestions welcome. thanks ^^

I would suggest iDeneb as a start, its a great disk and very organized. Also try iPC and Kalyway, unfortunetly my latest install was a Dell AMD so I had to use iPC instead of iDeneb (didnt have the proper hardware id's, and I was to lazy to fix it
As far as installing each os on the harddrives, sounds perfectly fine. Just make sure they are hookedup and jumpers are set correctly, and you can see them in bios. Once that is done partition each accordingly i suggest fat32 for both, then the mac one use the mac disk utility to format it Mac Journaled.
Just ask if you need any help after that!

alright two things...
is there a place where i can get the most recent releases of the distributions you stated...
and currently both HDs have a xp on them... seeing as one got infected recently .. i reinstalled xp onto the second.. and now run primarily off the second.. only going back to the first infected one when i need somthing ive lost. they are both formatted NTFS im pretty sure thats waht windows makes them naturally. soo is it fine if i leave my window HD NTFS or do i have to make it fat32? what are the effects of that. Thanks ^^

Neither ... use Apple's native HFS+ format... Mac OS Extended ( journaled ) file system
