Dell D505 laptop, installed OK, but I have a few problems
I am using; Kalyway 10.5.2 on a Dell D505 w/ 1.3ghz Pentium M 768MB RAM, 60GB HD. I mostly followed the wiki guide for the 505 on insanelymac in the wiki. The only deviations are that I didn't need to do the USB fix and the wiki suggested the speedstep kernel but I never saw a chance to select it. So, I have no idea what kernel I have. I set the video RAM to 8mb so the install was in good resolution color.
Sound, Ethernet, USB, external Vid all work fine. OS seems stable and will run all day without errors or crashes. I am still trying to get AVI and DIVX working but those are well known issues.
The problem is that some of the apps I have tried so far crash or behave oddly. I really only use the computer for a few things, mp3's of talkshows, internet and skype. And so far I don't seem to be to do those things.
When I pause an mp3 playing in iTunes then resume, it takes up to 12 seconds to start playing again and it may or may not crash or play well.
When I use Safari it seems to work fine but when I clicked on links sent in Facebook chat and I think one other normal web link the browser freezes and I can move the mouse around but can't click on anything, I have to power cycle the laptop.
When skype is launched it soon disappears and I get the dialog box saying it crashed but the OS seems to stay up.
I would really love to resolve this because all the hardware seems to work, and it runs like a champ. My boot time is about 1 min and my shutdown is about 30 sec. compared to about 4 min boot and 3 min shutdown in XP.
