Exclamation Boot: MAC Framework successfully initialized

After a successful install the laptop hangs on booting up 10.5.2 Kalyway with this message:

    MAC Framework successfully initialized
using 10485 buffer headers and 4096 cluster IO buffer headers

I have tried running with all manner of boot options:

    -v -x -f platform=ACPI rd=disk0s2

    Any ideas?
    Thanks

    EDIT:
