A Boot Error On Kalyway 10.5.2
Okay, I'm new here, and I'd just like to say thank you to everyone for allow this forum to exist.
I know this problem is probably very common and everyone asks how to fix it, but I can't find any help on google or this forum so if a moderator would kindly move this to the correct place or whatever I'd appreciate it.
Okay heres some of my specs
# Dell Vostro 200
# Install method: Kalyway 10.5.2
# CPU: Intel® Core™2 Duo Proc E8400
# Mainboard: FoxConn GM33M02
I've checked with CPUID and my processor is capable.
Im booting from DVD and heres one of the last lines that show up
root filesystem is read only skipping kernel link data generation
I think thats what it says I tried my best to remember it.
Im using Vista Ultimate SP1, and I have 2 partitions, 70GB and 160GB, with a 1TB external HDD.
The 160GB HDD is set as active, however I always boot into the 70GB, I think thats where the boot.ini file is, I have no idea.
Anyways I try and format my 160GB HDD using all sorts of methods and it just won't format, it's NTFS, and I think FAT32 is needed for Kalyway, could somebody please tell me?
If I used an old XP disk, went into the installation and formatting my D: drive from there, would that work?
Thank you everyone and like I said sorry if this is in the wrong place or if any of the questions are silly or it's uninformative I tried my best.
J to the T. Shaken, not Stirred
That line is normal if you're booting from DVD since the root filesystem is on the disc, which is read only. Obviously, the crash isn't normal, but I don't exactly know what could be causing it in your case. Have you tried any other distributions?
Only iATKOS which failed miserably.
What commands should I enter after the crash, because I just leave it for 15 minutes and nothing happens so I powered off.
