Default AMD install stops progressing at a certain point

Trying to install OS X 10.5.2 Kalyway on this setup:

    Tyan S2881
    2x Opteron 2 GHz s940 CPUs
    1 GB REG ECC DDR
    80 GB WD IDE drive
    Samsung DVD IDE drive

The installer loads beautifully, seems to work great. I partitioned the drive, selected it for an install, and the install began. But after it got like 1/8th the way there, the DVD drive was still spinning, but the light wasn't blinking. I gave it plenty of time, on two attempts, and the installer wouldn't get farther than as shown below. I can still move the mouse and all that, it isn't frozen, it's just stopped. I also tried using a SATA DVD drive (if that even matters) and the disc wouldn't boot right.

    Any ideas?

    Hi,
Wow, what a computer you have there!
Could it be a defective/bad media DVD disc, or corrupted data? Have you try to burn it at slowest speed?
    Just a thought.
    Regards,

I thought about that, but the second time around, I allowed OS X to check the install media before installing. It took forever, but passed. Any other ideas?

    Hi,
It should not take forever, maybe 5-10min?
Installation problem usually happens at the loading to installer screen, and then reboot where OSX try to boot/loading. That stage you got is fairly just a file system copy, and should not cause much trouble unless there are problem with media, DVD reader, file transfer.
    Just a thought.

Well... I'll try another IDE dvd drive, maybe the drive is screwed up... but I'm just as confused as you. It runs the installer beautify, then does nothing partly through the copying.

    Hi,
I would also check the download too. It usually give out MD5 checksum error, but like many, I've never bothered.
    Good luck.

Well, I did use this same disc to put Leopard on my Core 2 box last month. And the CD has just been sitting on my desk since then, it should be good.
