Yeah, has there been any progress? I just got my m11x r2 as well.

I'm not sure if this helps, but I found this video showing the m15x running an i7 (m11x R2) with a working installation of os x
YouTube - Alienware run mac os x and windows7
Posting from my M11x R2, albeit in Windows 7 - I am also interested in figuring this out. Anything I can do to help? I have a 10.6 disc available to me to work from... Is there a good guide to start from?
i7 class won't get support until 10.6.4 so try to install SL and do an update to the latest version.
As for installation, you guys can use distro release to make it easier, as retail DVD would require additional support files and patches.

Hey anand00x, I'm new to these forums. I am going to buy an Alienware m11x fairly soon, and were interested in booting Snow Leopard as well as Ubuntu 10.04 on the m11x. I was trying to view your videos and it said "videos private", is there a way you could add my Youtube account to the list of people who can view these videos? thank you.

Anyone still working on this?![]()
i tried empire EFI for Core i3,i5,i7-M but it get stuck with this line:
Firewire GUID fffffffffffffffffffff is invailid!
anyone have any idea?
Mine is m11x R2, core i5
I'm still working on sourcing an M11x-R2 on the cheap.
With regards to the whole distro vs. retail disc installation, I strongly suggest the retail method. Why? A distro is basically a patched kernel with extra kexts thrown in beforehand. It makes updating a nightmare. Installing off a retail Snow Leopard disc enables you to update from Apple directly, and you're that much closer to a "real" Mac.
For those that wish to at least get started, send me a PM. I have a few things I want to try. Expect to be very patient though. You may be formatting your hard drive several times a day.
It won't be that bad, not formatting hdd several times unless you want to
I agree that retail sometimes is better, but distro has some good things to it as well.
As for patched kernel, all of those i class CPU, particularly laptops, would need to run patched kernel anyway until 10.6.4. And this is verified with Geekbench benchmarking.
