Ok since someone has confirmed that the only distro that works is the MSIWINDOSX distro I had an idea:

SINCE THE MSI LEOPARD DISTRO WORKS ON THE M11x Why not try the snow leopard installation method for the wind on the Alienware M11x and see where we get?


INSTALLATION OF SNOW LEOPARD ON MSI WIND.
Basically I followed these instructions. This is for a wind install so might work for alienware since leopard method worked for wind.

1 - restore the install DVD to a USB stick

which you need to do because the USB is writeable and we need to modify some files on it

2 - Run NetBookBootMaker against the USB stick

BE VERY CAREFUL! Running on a real Mac against your HD will kill OSX!

Make sure you have 0.8.3RC4 since it fixes 10.6.2 to run on the Atom.

3 - Boot your Wind from the USB stick - press F11 on boot, or go into the BIOS and change the boot order.

4 - Install just like normal. Restart.

On the first run the trackpad didn't work properly - have a mouse ready

5 - Download the NetBookInstaller program and have ready to run, but don't run yet.

6 - Run the 10.6.2 combo updater. DO NOT RESTART!

7 - run the NetBookInstaller.

8 - Restart, and you should be running 10.6.2!

Stuff thats not working:

Audio
Webcam
Bluetooth
Ethernet update: install the network kexts from 10.5.x
Quartz Extreme

While working on OSX I installed Ubuntu 10.04 on the M11x and love this OS for the M11x. It is insanely fast with an SSD and the 3d desktop environments are crazy.

I don't see how NetbookInstaller would help this project, as the M11X does not have an Atom.

Hi all, I'm an Alienware M11X owner with some previous Hackintosh XP. I Hackintoshed an ASUS EEE 1005HAB a few months ago but replaced that with this beauty. I've got a good friend of mine that would like to help us "he's a mac guy" with this! I've read the thread and wanted to know what i can do to get snow leopard running on this beast machine. I'll be monitoring this thread and again I'll help in any way that I can. Thanks, let's get this working!!!

I do not currently have access to an M11X to hackintosh. If I did post a guide, I wouldn't be posting under this account. If you're interested, drop me an email, and be prepared to expend a lot of time on your machine.

I am currently in the process of obtaining an m11x-R2. If you're still interested in hackintoshing your R1, send me a PM. I will respond to you and give you my email within the week. After that, correspondence can even be hourly, as I'm tied to my email. Not so much this forum account. Sorry if this is too cryptic for you.

I ordered an R2 i7 as well. Will try working on that one when I get it. PM me and i'll let you know my progress.

New to this forum and love the idea here! I just opened my M11x and id love to try this. Please post a guide as to the software needed to get this working once a solution has been found.
