I would assume it's a hardware problem with either the dock connector or charging board, but I'd need some more test results to help gauge.

What happens if you plug directly into the wall-outlet and leave sitting overnight? Does the device feel warm to the touch? Do you ever get a visual indicator on the screen that anything is happening?

Outside of that, have you made any hardware changes to the device previously such as replacing a broken commcenter board, replacing the battery, removing or replacing the power or home buttons / etc?

when i plug it into the wall outlet, theres nothing coming up, its just the same blank black screen, and even if i plug it into my usb port the computer, it is the same problem, and if i leave it plugged in the computer while restarting, the computer will not start up, and if i plug it into my printer usb port, the print will not start up either and it will start to malfunction, and i do not feel it getting hot when i plug it into wall outlet

I've never heard of the iPhone generating POST tones - however hardware repair is not my speciality.

Your problem sounds very much like it's hardware - specifically I'd start with replacing the dock connector/board inside the iPhone.

I'm in 100% agreement with Olethros. If it was the charging circuit, the phone and computer would properly recognize the connection in most cases -- in this case it does seem the most likely that either the connection between the dock connector and the logic board has been flexed and broke due to a bad solder job at the factory (common on these phones, I hate to say), or that the actual dock connector has been damaged during insertion/disconnection.

Getting a replacement connector itself is not too expensive -- you can get them from a couple of places (e.g., DealExtreme) for about $10.50. Reasonably cheap to attempt, and replacing the board itself isn't one of the more in-depth repairs -- though I've only ever done so personally on the 3G, 3GS, and 4. Never taken a 2G apart, I hate to say.

In either case, if you're not a stranger to hardware hacking, I'd say give it a shot -- the most likely is that dock connector finally breaking free or being damaged, and it should be a quick fix.
