Unhappy IPHONE Error Error Error. Help!

    Details: Iphone 2g (1st Gen) 8GB Registered, Itunes 9.0.2.25, Firmware 3.1.2

    Story:
I am traveling the world in 5 days, and was preparing to bring my iphone along to use in other countries, therefore requiring an unlock.
Long story short, I jailbroke my phone using "blackra1n" after restoring it with 3.1.2 firmware and itunes 9.0.2.25 software.
Good and dandy, everything works. Great. Then comes the unlocking.
I downloaded Cydia, bootneuter, great. Now to see if it works.
I take a friends t-mobile sim card and proceed to test my phone if it will work with a different carrier.
To great frustration, an hour of fumbling, and no avail, the bootneuter does not recognize the sim card from t mobile.

I was following instructions 1. reset phone with new card 2. Neuter on 3. Flash 4. Unlock on 5. Flash

    NOW MY PHONE IS BROKEN!
    - No Wi - Fi access, so i cannot change SSH?
    - No phone service, BootNeuter
    - No Restore possible! Itunes recongnizes my phone, but gives me an error, Iphone "Names Iphone" cannot be restored due to error (23)
    - ive tried to reset, by turning off, turning on holding home etc. plugging in
    - I have tried to restore to earlier firmware, 1.1.4, 3.0.0, etc, but no success due to not being able to even restore
    - I get locked out of even user interface until i run blackra1n again

What can i do next! As a comp.engr. , i feel helpless to this onslaught from what i am adopting as the iphone's "MAC ATTACK"

Please provide insight if you can. Thanks.

    Dan

What OS was it running before you started to unlock?

Did anything unusual happen when you ran bootneuter? Like it taking a long time and you force restarting the iPhone? Or the iPhone screen going to sleep? Did bootneuter report success?

You should not have needed to flash more than once with Boot Neuter. I would have recommended using pwnagetool or redsn0w as they both automate the bootneuter stage which is where the biggest risk lies.

Regardless, you should be able to fix this.

You need to do these steps back to 1.x firmware (this requires downgrading your iTunes to at least iTunes 7.6.1). Be sure to remove all iTunes components and restarting before installing the old version of iTunes.

Try this thread. The basic idea is to wipe your baseband and rewrite it with a known good baseband.

I have concluded that it is bricked, since after i downgraded, the phone is not even recognized.
I upgraded to itunes 9 again, and now nothing. I can get into DFU mode, but still restore error. If i unplug, there is only an apple sign, so i can't even turn it on or access SSH.
Don't know what to do, any other suggestions?

Unlikely, error 23 is generally only fixed via hardware re-flashing of the baseband on a 2G iPhone.
