[Time Capsule] run SSH on its NetBSD?
Hi all,
the Time Capsule is running NetBSD x86 - but with nothing like SSH or Telnet enabled.
my idea was to enable it manually by taking the harddrive out; connecting it via USB Adapter; accessing the file systen; adding "sshd=YES" to /etc/rc.conf; put the HD back in and reboot.
you think this could work? is ssh part of every NetBSd or might this have been removed?
because after SSH would work, It should be no issue to remotely connect and install e.g. the firefly media server...
thanks!

and the answer is
....
no

it seems to run the whole BSD from the ARM chip and there is no modification possible on the harddisk :-(

Well if it runs from the flash maybe a modified firmware update might work. I suppose the chip is flashable, so there is a possibility.
Has any update been issued yet?

A collegue of mine just went to NYC, so I asked him to get me a Time Capsule 1TB.
I'll get it on tuesday and will see if there are any fw updates available...

there was an update to 7.3.1 which i applied automatically after unpacking.
when you get a new one, it might be very likely, that it is not yet installed by apple on the TC
it was this one:
http://www.apple.com/support/downloa...rmware731.html
after downloading it (MAC) it can be found at
/Library/Application Support/Apple/AirPort/Firmware/
and is a file called "7.3.1.basebinary"

I found this one regarding the chip:
It appears that both the TC and AEBS use a "standard ARM-based CPU designed to run 802.11n access points" from Marvell. This indicates that the chips is coomon and standard among 802.11n routers.
The RAM appears to be half that of TC, coming in at 64MB, and may only be DDR. I have yet to determine the RAM speed or validate these findings from other sources.
