    Default Super Drive issues

As an i Mac owner (currently broken - graphics chip died) I am well used to Super drive issues suck as lockup and refusing to open the drive door etc..

However some of the workarounds available on mac are (seemingly) not available on a hack... or simply do not work.

I have even added an eject icon to the finder menu bar etc but nothing short of a reboot or sometimes two reboots will free the drive up again. Not sure why it locks up like this.

An example - I am trying to restore my beatles collection to iTunes... and have no problem opening the drive drawer, importing the muusic and ejecting etc... for several disks. I decide to pause and close itunes or do something else...

10 minutes later I go back to import a few more discs and cannot open the drawer.

This issue has also crashed the system on one occasion...

    Anybody?

    Thanks for your input/advice?

Thanks everyone for all your replies and invaluable advice on how to go about resolving the issue, particularly Squidder for taking the time to comment at all.
I have taken all your advice so far... waded through the tons of suggestions and done precisely nothing...so therefore the issue is still unsolved. Like everyone else on this forum and every other forum for that matter I am a volunteer just like the rest of you...
I am sure someone has had these issues before and managed to resolve them through the help of others... so what's wrong with giving something back by sharing the knowledge?

Deafening on this forum... so many voices.. turns out their all echoes of my own voice... Wonder why bother having a forum at all if its only just to cater for me... Lets see... Thats like 10 days now and not a single reply... Really helpful that....
