Why I chose these components?
From the hardware wiki:
GT240 (DVI + AGP + HDMI)
10.6.6 All Working OOB
GA-G41M-ES2L / Intel Core 2 DUO 2.4 GHz / 2x DDR2 800Mhz
Updated 10.6.6 Ok. All working.
Patches Used = Only Sound
*Gigabyte's website lists the G41M-ES2L as accepting up to 8GB (2x4DDR2) of ram but, many 2xDDR2 800mhz CL6 are listed fully compatible and they are very cheap.
* The E5400 is the cheapest Core 2 DUO with 2MB cache that nears the 3.0Ghz mark. It clocks in at 2.7Ghz stock.
* Although I would prefer a Cooler Master Elite 330 Case is Tool Free, uses rolled steel, and offers an IEEE1394 front port if I need it.
* The GT240 is much more expensive than a GT220 or a 7600GS or many other low wattage GPU's but, it's far more powerful, still uses very little power and, is extremely quiet. I could get a 1GB DDR3 version for the same price I think the system will benefit more from 512MB of DDR5.
*Antec EarthWatts Green EA-380D was on sale with free shipping so I had to jump on it. It's 80plus Bronze Certified and contains good quality hardware. Should be plenty enough power for my needs.
