After following the Lifehacker method of preparing the USB boot disk (with an updated version of Chameleon and boot) I had a look at some of the hardware specs on this forum.

This post caught my attention and I grabbed some of the same hardware components and kept some originals from my old machine:

CPU: Intel i7 920 2.66GHz
GFX: ASUS HD4870 512MB
MOBO: GA-EX58-UD3R
HDD: 1TB Seagate HDD SATA
RAM: 6GB Kingston DDR3

I changed all the BIOS settings (seeing as the mobos are similar) to the recommeded on the Lifehacker web site (see the link above) and away I booted.

I get to the Apple loading screen and then it just does that for eternity. I had a look around and apparently that means the gfx card isn't supported; but then I had a look on the Chameleon site and the new one reckons it is supported.

Any ideas on what I can do/did wrong?

I'm open to other methods of booting rather than using Lifehacker; I'm not too hardware-savvy so please be patient with me
