Most Ram for the $$
Hi all, I'm currently using a MacBook with 3 GB ram in it for everything I do, but thinking of upgrading to a desktop soon for more serious work at home. Was figuring I'd have to get Mac Pro to get more RAM in it, but thinking about hackintosh. I don't think I need to go to XEON processors or anything, but would like at least 4GB of RAM and the possibility of 8GB...what would be a good chipset/motherboard?
For that matter, is there a chipset for XEON that works with any know hackintosh config? The extra power probably wouldn't hurt since I'm usually running enough apps to max out 4-5GB of RAM easily.
I have a bunch of old HP x4000 workstation towers that I use as servers. I installed Mac OS 10.4.5 a long time ago, and it picked up the 4 2.4ghz xeon processors and the 8 gigs just fine. Those were old xeons though. I dunno. All you can do is try, I'm sure it will find the CPUs just fine as long as they don't get in the way of other devices. the only multicore issues people have mainoly have to do with dual core processors with builtin graphics support - nothing a xeon motherboard would have :-P.
