I also tried the rd=disk1,2,etc thing
Hi, I hope somebody can help, and sorry for being such a noob!
Found this helpful thread and purchased the following components: GA-G31M-ES2L, Asus 8400GS 256MB pci-e graphics, and a 2.4GHz core2duo.
After reading all the tutorials, and searching for info on my motherboard, Im now very confused what bootloader to use, and how to import the kext, and which kexts i should use!
I want to run the retail Leopard and be able to use Apple updates and reinstall when needed without redoing the drivers.
Can anybody point me towards the best boot loader, kexts, and install method for this board? Im sure after this thread, lots of people would have purchased this, and it would be nice to have a good guide for this hardware seeing as its probably the best hardware for a cheap hackintosh.
Thanks
Come on man theres lots of guides out there, just google it, now if you wanna install retail, check the munkys guide, is in the installation forum as sticky, good luck. You just have to start reading
sorry, i was just confused where to start. Like you say, there are loads of guides, but all say a slightly different way o doing things. Its hard to work out which is currently the best way of doing this.
From what I gather, there are a few posts about using the monkey method, but thats old, and now you should use Chameleon 2? And then there are loads o posts of different kexts for the hardware, and no idea which are the best ones, which ones crash the sytem etc.
At the moment Ive tried the Chameleon 2 method, but the PC had a kernel panic, so now Ive collected some texts and made a custom boot132 cd. Tomorrow i plan to boot my pc with this boot132 which i gather should make the efi partition and inject the custom kexts?
Sorry for being such a noob, but it was great that we had this thread saying buy this hardware, it will work. but it would be cool to have a link for each hardware setup to a basic howto for complete noobs like me so we dont get confused.
If nobody makes one before me, i do plan to do a write up if i do one day get this sytem working, which im sure i will, i just wish i knew the best way to do it, monkey, efiboot, Chameleon 1 /2 boot 132, kalyway etc etc etc.
There must be a best way for standard intel based systems right?
well i just tried the boot 132 method to install 10.5 retail using these instructions:
[TOTALLY VANILLA] Retail Leopard Install with EFI-strings support [Powered by Chameleon 2.0] - InsanelyMac Forum
I created the cd ok, then got stuck because the guide says to make a 200mb partition in disk utility, but using the GUI, its only possible to make as small as 1GB.
I made a 1GB partition, started installing leopard, it got 95% installed, then locked up :(
There must be a correct way of doing this!
