[Guide] The Almost Perfect Hardware Setup
It has been a while since I've adventured myself into the world of hackintoshery and left my first-gen all-altered MacMini. Recently, I've decided it was time for an upgrade and have searched around this forum a lot for the perfect setup, gathered some info and went shopping. This is what I've purchased:
Intel CPU Q9300 Quad Core
Asus P5K-E Wifi-AP (P35 chipset, ADI AD1988B 8-channel HD audio codec)
ATI Radeon HD3870 512MB DDR4
Kingston 2x 2GB SDRAM DDR2 800 Mhz
4x SATA II 500GB Western Digital Hard disks (at the moment with a software RAID setup)
and all the other ordinary stuff (burner, chassis, etc).
Oh, and a conceptronic Bluetooth piece internally connected and innerly fixed to the chassis.
So after a lot of experimenting, decided that the 10.5.1 Kalyway distribution was the most OTB solution for this setup. Comboed to 10.5.3 and updated it straight to 10.5.4, running vanilla kernel. Really impressive how quickly this setup setups itself ;). And yeah, ATI driver support out of the box, running like hell!
For now, all good. But (there is always one, or two):
a. Audio sounds strange when any sound is begining to be produced (a squirish kind of sound, pretty noticeable when pressing the F10 and F11 (volume buttons) on the keyboard and producing that popping sound along with the volume bar movement). Used the Tiruga patch to support all the plugging but still no luck.
b. It doesn't shut down (multi-language screen kindly asking to press and hold down power button appears). Have not been able to find any patch.
c. The aluminum keyboard has to be disconnected from the usb port to pass the CHECKING USB CONTROLLERS phase at bios boot up routine. Can be connected back again by the time of the Darwin boot holding period for custom commands (luckily).
Can anyone help me dealing with this 3 really unpleasant little drawbacks of my highly studied setup?
