Foxconn n15235 Dual-Boot Problem

To Start, my specs....

MoBo: Foxconn P45A-S LGA 775 (n15235)
Gfx: eVGA Geforce 9800 GTX+
Ram: 4GB (Corsair) 240-pin, DDR2 800 (PC2 6400)
CPU: Q6600 Core2-Quad (2.4Ghz)
HD: WD-640GB-7200
HD2: (To be Mac...) WD-120GB-7200

Original OS: Windows Vista 32bit

Built in November

As you can see my specs should be more than qualified, however I'm wondering about the motherboard... I get past the darwin screen, and the white flashes with the apple logo immediately restarting my computer. Same results after using iPC OSx86 10.5.6 as well as iATKOS 5i.

So I see the first splash screen with apple, but I can't get any farther. Any advice that might be given would be greatly appreciated.

Try this after installation cpus=1 -v -x, post back if you get any error

ahh, my bad. I don't think I mentioned it, but this is pre-install. I haven't been able to get past a 1-second flash of the apple screen before installing it.

Pretty much, I have Vista on the computer now and restarted to the DVD to try and install it. I've tried the boot_132 disk as well as just the Mac OS itself. Both instances I get to the prompt to "hit any key to boot from CD". Once I do that, it loads the Darwin modules and goes to the white screen with the apple logo in the middle (From what I've read, this is supposed to be the screen that could take up to 5-10 minutes to get past). Right when I get to this screen, there's about a half a second to a second flash and poof, computer reboots.

yeah, this is all pre-install. Still looking up what else I could try, just nothing's really working. So I'm installing it on my laptop while I wait.

You can still use those flags to boot, try it please, and report back if you get any error, you can also check if have SATA AHCI compatiblity in the BIOS, disable Audio/LAN, Enable XD bit and try

kk, thanks alot for the responses. Got another hour until class tonight to work on it, and I just read more about the cpus=1 command, as well as disabling speedstep if need be. So I'm gonna try it now and post about it in a few hours if it's a success or not. Either way, thanks again, and let's hope for the best.

The good news is I got it working on my laptop, but there was never this problem... the only problem I'm having on my laptop is the wireless and the ATI x1400 graphics card LACK of support, but that's not a problem to me right now :)

alright, I got it to install using the command "cpus=1", however, when trying to boot, I've gotten it to the Apple Loading screen where it froze there for 15 minutes. I've tried to load it with cpus=1 (and without cpus=1) as well as -x -v. Now when I use "cpus=1 -x -v" I get the text scrolling and then it freezes at
"MAC Framework successfully initialized"
"using 16384 buffer headers and 4096 cluster IO buffer headers"
"[]"

the [] is just a solid white box... it then stalls there and doesn't move (after about 5 more minutes here I just came back to windows).

thoughts? Heading out now, so I'll be back in a couple hours to check to see if anyone can help..

yep, did all of that and left it running while I was at class. I came back to see the same problems.. just freezes when loading the mac os. cpus=1 -v -x. changed the bios around a bit. blah.. just bad luck so far on the computer.

I'm going to keep looking around as I've been during class on the laptop. Anyone else having problems with the Q6600? Because I'm beginning to think that it has something to do with that but still, I'm no expert so I can't really say that for sure.

Either way, if there's anymore ideas or thoughts of advice anyone has, I'd be thankful.

edit: my class lasted 3 hours, so it was frozen for roughly 3 hours, and I highly doubt it's going to take that much time to load :-p

Well theres 2 solutions for your system, one... you will need to MOD your BIOS

1- Here your BIOS MOD

2- If you dont want to MOD you can install using retail with DSDT Override, follow munkys guide :D

Well, a couple more hours of working on it and here's what I've got so far.

as well as all applications except Marvin's AMD Utility...

After the install I was able to bypass the previous problems, however, now I'm hitting a wall...
"Still waiting for Root Directory"... So I googled it for the last hour and a half trying every method I could find and no luck thus far... I've reinstalled the Mac OS 5 or 6 times since starting to try out different things and no luck.

I've tried editing kexts through terminal in the install CD, I've tried changing BIOS settings, changed out my harddrives, moved pins for Master/Slave settings, and I even took out my windows harddrive for a short time. No luck with any of those ideas. Still getting taunted by "Still waiting for Root Directory".

With that said, I know this solution was for my previous problems, but you do you think flashing the bios would help with that problem as well? Got any more ideas? :)

Once again thank you for the time and help you've given. I feel like, with how many people I've read are having this problem, that I may be reading past it. With how many times I've ready so many different people's problems, I really hope I'm NOT missing something... :-p


Edit: I'm going to take a look at munky's guide now and get everything I need to work on it in the morning. Hopefully I can get it working somewhat early tomorrow, otherwise it's going to have to wait a few days. Being a CSCI Major at Northern Illinois University doesn't give me much down time like I had today, even in the summer months. ha

I'm on my laptop now.. I didn't try one thing on the computer.... when I removed the other hard drive last time, I never changed around the pins in the Mac HD... so I did that as a "Let's try this before bed"... and it's working now.. I'm setting up the Keyboard as I'm typing in fact. Now my only problem is... is there a way to fix this so I don't have to take out my other HD every time I want to use the Mac OS?

Otherwise this is just going to be tedious heh. :-p

Hopefully I get a response that says "oh, easy.. just do this and this and POOF". but I know that isn't normally how things work, so yeah, anything you can think of.
